The Valparaiso softball team concludes the regular season this weekend as the Crusaders host Youngstown State in the final Horizon League series of the year. Sunday's game will also serve as Senior Day, with the Crusaders honoring their four graduating seniors prior to the game.

Teams combined for 24 hits - all singles - in a tilt that saw all eight runs scored in the first four frames. Wormington threw four shutout innings in relief to earn his third win of the year. Kowalczyk maintained his perfect ERA while notching his sixth save of the season.

Stepping out of Horizon League play for the final time in the 2013 campaign, the Valparaiso softball team split a pair of games Wednesday evening at IUPUI, rallying for a 5-4 victory in eight innings in the opener before a seventh-inning rally came up short in a 3-1 loss in the nightcap.

The Valparaiso softball team stepped out of league play on Tuesday afternoon and swept a doubleheader at Western Michigan, earning a pair of one-run wins by scores of 4-3 and 1-0. Freshman Taylor Weissenhofer (Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport Township) broke the Crusaders' single-season strikeouts record in the nightcap.

Mahar tossed three innings in relief for freshman Drew Hasler to get the win before Kowalczyk earned his fifth save of the season in a 5-3 Crusader victory. Tanner Vavra scored the winning run from second on a wild pitch.

Middle of the order goes 9-for-15, knocks in eight runs in rout of Maple Leafs; Ryan Kennedy notches first win of 2013 out of the bullpen. Valpo plays Western Michigan Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Emory G. Bauer Field.

Valpo smacks seven extra-base hits; DeBoo throws seven efficient innings in the series-opening victory over the visiting Raiders. The two teams continue play Saturday at 1:00 pm CT at Emory G. Bauer Field.

Fifth-year senior Brad Winters (Elgin, Ill./Saint Edward [Dayton]) and junior Kyle Henning (Brookfield, Wis./East) each posted rounds of 4-over par 76 on Sunday to lead the Valparaiso men's golf team in the final round of the Wolfpack Spring Open at Lonnie Poole GC in Raleigh, N.C.

After being outscored 31-6 in the first two games of the series, Crusaders put on a hitting clinic to beat their second top-10 team in as many years. Freshman Dalton Lundeen earned his second victory of the season in Valpo's first ever win over a Pac-12 team.

The Valparaiso softball team closed out a Horizon League series victory at Detroit in emphatic fashion on Sunday afternoon, scoring 12 runs in the first inning alone en route to a 17-0 win over the Titans.
