Cleveland State sophomore Ali Shabib (Copenhagen, Denmark) and Green Bay senior Craig Cox (Surrey, England) have been named the Horizon League's Co-Players of the Week in men's tennis while UIC junior Mariana Palacios (Quito, Pichincha, Ecuador) takes the women's honor. It is Shabib's second award of the season and the first for both Cox and Palacios.

After taking two games out of three from preseason-No. 1 Loyola, UIC freshman Laura Swan (Glendora, Calif.) and senior Devin Miller (Chicago, Ill.) have swept the weekly Horizon League Softball Players of the Week awards. Swan is the Hitter of the Week, the third in a row for the Flames, while Miller claims Pitcher of the Week after sharing the honor last week.

UIC junior Natalie Hernandez (Glendora, Calif.) has been named the Horizon League Player of the Week while Flames senior Devin Miller (Chicago, Ill.) and Wright State junior Krystian DeWitt split Pitchers of the Week honors. It is the first award of the season for all three student-athletes.

After each notched their respective program’s first Division I postseason victories earlier in the week, Youngstown State and UIC each bowed out of the CollegeInsider.com Tournament in the second round, suffering tough losses to Canisius and Northern Iowa, respectively.

Punxsutawney Phil had better watch his back. A lot of people are unhappy with the famous groundhog's apparently inaccurate prediction of an early spring, and now several of those malcontents are carrying softball bats as the Horizon League's opening weekend games have been postponed due to the unseasonably cold weather and unplayable field conditions.

The college basketball postseason takes on a distinct Horizon League flavor tonight as four teams make their respective debuts across three tournaments.

Wright State and UIC each recorded the program's first postseason victories, while Green Bay and Detroit saw seasons come to an end on Wednesday night.

INDIANAPOLIS -- UIC junior left fielder Courtney Heeley (Glendale, Ariz./Greenway) has been named Horizon League Softball Player of the Week, while Valparaiso freshman Sierra Pico (North Las Vegas, Nev./Legacy) has earned Horizon League Softball Pitcher of the Week honors, for the week of March 11-17.

CHICAGO -- The UIC men’s basketball team will see its 2012-13 season continue, after the Flames accepted an invitation to play in the CollegeInsider.com Tournament (CIT).  It marks UIC’s first postseason berth since 2004, and the fifth overall in program history.

BOSTON -- UIC head men’s basketball coach Howard Moore and Detroit head coach Ray McCallum were named as two of the 20 finalists for the Ben Jobe Award, which annually honors the top minority head coach in the Division I ranks.
