INDIANAPOLIS – Youngstown State redshirt freshman D.J. Holub has been named Horizon League Men’s Golfer of the Week, while Loyola junior April Ohlendorf and Cleveland State senior Ariel Sparrow have been named Horizon League Women’s Golfer of the Week.

Honoring student-athletes for their success both in competition and in the classroom, the Horizon League announced its 2012-13 Winter Academic All-League Teams on Monday. A total of 75 student-athletes from six winter sports were honored in balloting by the League’s faculty athletics representatives and sports information directors.

UIC senior Devin Miller (Chicago, Ill.) has been the Horizon League Pitcher of the Week while Valparaiso freshman Janelle Bouchard (Kennebunk, Maine) has been named the Hitter of the Week for the first time in her career.

INDIANAPOLIS -- Youngstown State junior Drew Dosch and Valparaiso junior Karch Kowalczyk have been named Horizon League Baseball Players of the Week for the period of April 15-21.

Early Sunday afternoon, dozens of onlookers with cameras drawn formed a semi-circle in the Athletics-Recreation Center on the campus of Valparaiso University, jostling for a better angle. Surprisingly, the crowd had nothing to do with the Horizon League champion Crusaders men’s basketball team, or any of Valpo’s other sports teams. Instead, the crowd was watching as barbers from the local Great Clips hair salon shaved the heads of university president Dr. Mark Heckler and his wife, Veronica.

INDIANAPOLIS – Green Bay earned the No. 1 seed for the 2013 Horizon League men’s tennis championship, while UIC clinched its 17^th consecutive regular-season women’s title, setting the stage for the 2013 tennis championships.

GREEN BAY, Wis. --For Green Bay senior Jess Hrncar, each spring means the arrival of a new softball season. While each season brings new challenges, many things remain the same. In the past, her father, Bob, has always been there to give her tips on her game, and her mother, Tami, has always served as a person to vent to and provided support. This season, however, brought the biggest change of Hrncar’s playing career and life—on October 3, 2012, Tami passed away after a long and courageous battle with breast cancer.

INDIANAPOLIS – Detroit junior Brendan Leonard has been named Horizon League Men’s Golfer of the Week, while Titan sophomore Olivia Richards has been named Horizon League Women’s Golfer of the Week.

In an event unprecidented this season, Loyola has swept all four weekly Horizon League track and field Athletes of the Week awards after a brilliant performance at the Benedictine Eagle Invitational. Sophomore Sam Penzenstadler (Oshkosh, Wis.) won his second Runner of the Week honor for the outdoor season while freshman Krista Kuss (Pittsburgh, Pa.) won the first of her career. Senior Paul Yavonic (Highland, Mich.) and sophomore Alison Szykowny (Palos Heights, Ill.) each won their first Field Athlete of the Week honor for the outdoor season.
