In an event unprecidented this season, Loyola has swept all four weekly Horizon League track and field Athletes of the Week awards after a brilliant performance at the Benedictine Eagle Invitational. Sophomore Sam Penzenstadler (Oshkosh, Wis.) won his second Runner of the Week honor for the outdoor season while freshman Krista Kuss (Pittsburgh, Pa.) won the first of her career. Senior Paul Yavonic (Highland, Mich.) and sophomore Alison Szykowny (Palos Heights, Ill.) each won their first Field Athlete of the Week honor for the outdoor season.

Youngstown State sophomores Silviu Mistreanu (Iasi, Romania) and Paula de Man (Eemens, Netherlands) have been named the Horizon League tennis Players of the Week. It is the second honor of the season for both.

INDIANAPOLIS -- Wright State senior Justin Kopale and UIC’s Tomas Michelson have been named Horizon League Baseball Players of the Week for the period of April 8-14.

Youngstown State junior Casey Crozier (Valparaiso, Ind.) and Cleveland State sophomore Erica McNew (Canton, Ohio) have been named the Horizon League softball Players of the Week. It is the first honor of the season for either player.

INDIANAPOLIS -- A charter member of the Horizon League, Loyola never has captured the McCafferty Trophy, given to the all-sports champion of the conference. Entering the spring championships, however, Loyola continues to lead the standings after adding two winter sports titles.

Sheryl Swoopes, who is regarded as one of the greatest female athletes of all time, has been named head women's basketball coach at Loyola University Chicago, it was announced today by Assistant Vice President and Director of Athletics Dr. M. Grace Calhoun.

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Loyola senior Ben Averkamp (Germantown, Wis./Germantown) and Detroit junior Ray McCallum (Beverly Hills, Mich./Detroit Country Day) each earned Division I-AAA Athletics Directors Association Scholar-Athlete Team honors, as announced by the Division I-AAA Athletics Directors Association (DI-AAA ADA).

INDIANAPOLIS – Detroit senior Simon Reyers has been named Horizon League Men’s Golfer of the Week, while Youngstown State senior Sarah Heimlich has been named Horizon League Women’s Golfer of the Week.

Valparaiso junior Eric Honert (Arvada, Colo.) and Detroit freshman Irina Slizovskaya (Sarnska, Russia) have been named the Horizon League tennis Players of the Week. It is the first honor of the season for both student-athletes.

Milwaukee sophomore Jordan Schmidt (Kewaunee, Wis.) and Youngstown State freshman Nina Grambling (Milwaukee, Wis.) have been  named the Horizon League Runners of the Week. It it the first honor of the outdoor season for either runner.
