John Barnes, who has won nearly 73 percent of the games he's coached in during his 17 years at the collegiate level, has been selected to continue building the Youngstown State University women's basketball program into a perennial contender in the Horizon League as its head coach.

Loyola junior James McLachlan (Wymondham, England) and Milwaukee senior Shelby Schaal (Waterford, Wis.) have been named the Horizon League's outdoor field Athletes of the Week. It is the first honor of the outdoor season for both.

UIC senior Justen Garth (Chicago, Ill.) has been named the Horizon League men's track Runner of the Week while Flames sophomore Rebecca Zaiter (Elmhurst, Ill.) and Loyola senior Gina Valgoi (Detroit, Mich.) split the women's award. It is the first honor of the outdoor season for all three runners.

INDIANAPOLIS – Valparaiso junior Kyle Henning has been named Horizon League Men’s Golfer of the Week, while Detroit senior Collette Hansen has been named Horizon League Women’s Golfer of the Week.

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Associate Head Coach Jayson Gee is leaving the Cleveland State men's basketball program after seven seasons. He was named the head coach at Longwood University on Wednesday.

CHICAGO – Fifty years after knocking off the University of Cincinnati to capture the NCAA championship, the 1963 Loyola University Chicago men’s basketball team will be inducted into the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame on November 24 in Kansas City, Mo. The 1963 Rambler squad is the first team ever to be enshrined in the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame.

Cleveland State will be represented at the 2013 New Orleans Combine later this week, as women's basketball senior standout Shalonda Winton was recently invited to attend the event. Winton will be one of over 25 players attending this year's Combine which is hosted in conjunction with the NCAA Women's Final Four in New Orleans, La.

Cleveland State sophomore Ali Shabib (Copenhagen, Denmark) and Green Bay senior Craig Cox (Surrey, England) have been named the Horizon League's Co-Players of the Week in men's tennis while UIC junior Mariana Palacios (Quito, Pichincha, Ecuador) takes the women's honor. It is Shabib's second award of the season and the first for both Cox and Palacios.

Milwaukee senior Jake Long has been named the Horizon League Pitcher of the Week for the third week in a row while Youngstown State junior Marcus Heath earned Hitter of the Week honors for the first time this season.

After taking two games out of three from preseason-No. 1 Loyola, UIC freshman Laura Swan (Glendora, Calif.) and senior Devin Miller (Chicago, Ill.) have swept the weekly Horizon League Softball Players of the Week awards. Swan is the Hitter of the Week, the third in a row for the Flames, while Miller claims Pitcher of the Week after sharing the honor last week.
