With eight teams in action tonight, Valparaiso hosts Green Bay, looking to extend its slight edge in the Horizon League standings as Wright State hopes to keep pace while wrapping up a four-game roadtrip at Youngstown State.

It is often said that basketball is a game of runs. The axiom was reinforced throughout the Horizon League on Wednesday night, as runs both early and late helped decide all four games.

INDIANAPOLIS -- Milwaukee’s Nathan Welchlin and Youngstown State’s Ashley Dow are the Horizon League Men’s and Women’s Swimmers of the Week for Jan. 14-20.

Detroit senior Ja'Quan Patterson (Ypsilanti, Mich.) has picked up his second non-consecutive Horizon League Indoor Field Athlete of the Week award while Milwaukee senior Samia Taylor (Madison, Wis.) earned repeat honors. Patterson was also honored Dec. 5 and Taylor also won last week.

It was a Saturday full of tournament-like atmospheres around the Horizon League, with two games coming down to the last minute and Detroit breaking a 22-year old record as well. By the end of the night, Valparaiso had moved to the top of the Horizon League standings, with Detroit, Wright State and Green Bay in hot pursuit.

After a Friday night off, all nine Horizon League men's basketball teams will take to the hardwood this weekend, highlighted by a matchup between top-ranked Wright State and No. 2 Valparaiso.

With road wins hard to come by in the Horizon League, Valparaiso made multiple statements in rallying for its third such win this season. Green Bay and Milwaukee reaffirmed the notion that collecting League road victories are a challenge, defending their respective home courts on Thursday night.

Tonight could prove to be the biggest night of the Horizon League men's basketball season, at least to this point.

Milwaukee sophomore Aaron Dillion (Milwaukee, Wis.) and senior Samia Taylor (Madison, Wis.) have swept the Horizon League Indoor Field Athletes of the Week honors. It is the first award of the season for either.
