INDIANAPOLIS -- Honoring student-athletes for their success both in competition and in the classroom, the Horizon League announced its 2012 Fall Academic All-League Teams on Friday.

A Friday night of rest sets up a weekend of exciting matchups in Horizon League men's basketball, including Detroit vs. Green Bay in the HLN Game of the Week and Valparaiso vs. Cleveland State on ESPN2.

Third place in the Horizon League men's basketball standings hangs in the balance Thursday night as six teams look to give more definition to the field.

It may have been the night of the year in Horizon League men’s basketball. All three games came down to the final minute, with both Youngstown State and Wright State winning in the waning seconds and Detroit holing off a pesky Milwaukee squad.

INDIANAPOLIS -- The 2012 Horizon League Tournament finalist, Loyola has been voted the favorite to capture the title in 2013, receiving six of eight first-place votes and 48 points in voting of the League’s head coaches.

INDIANAPOLIS -- Green Bay’s Mitchell Spaeth and Youngstown State’s Casey Hill are the Horizon League Men’s and Women’s Diver of the Week for Jan. 28-Feb. 3.

Loyola senior Declan Murray (Strongsville, Ohio) and Youngstown State junior Ciara Jarrett have been named the Horizon League Indoor Track Runners of the Week. Murray was also honored on Nov. 26, 2012. This is the first award of the season for Jarrett.

Milwaukee senior Garrett Vetesnik (Richland Center, Wis.) and Youngstown State freshman Jennifer Neider (Hermatige, Pa.) have been named the Horizon League Indoor Field Athletes of the Week. It is the first honor of the season for either.

It was a night of extremes in the Horizon League on Tuesday. While a player who entered the night averaging 5.5 points per game went off for 23, Valparaiso continued its offensive tear at the expense of UIC.
