INDIANAPOLIS -- The 2012 Horizon League Tournament finalist, Loyola has been voted the favorite to capture the title in 2013, receiving six of eight first-place votes and 48 points in voting of the League’s head coaches.

It was a night of extremes in the Horizon League on Tuesday. While a player who entered the night averaging 5.5 points per game went off for 23, Valparaiso continued its offensive tear at the expense of UIC.

BRISTOL, Conn. -- The Horizon League earned two television games in the 2013 Ramada BracketBusters, ESPN announced on Monday evening. Detroit will take on Wichita State, while Valparaiso will host Eastern Kentucky.

Horizon League road teams entered Saturday with just 14 wins in 40 chances. However, Saturday saw road teams take both games in men’s basketball action, coming at the expense of the Horizon League’s two Chicago members.

College football prides itself on saying “every game matters.” As the second half of the Horizon League men’s basketball conference season begins this weekend, no phrase seems more appropriate.

Ordinarily, when a team from Green Bay visits Chicago, the reception is far from warm. However, when the Green Bay men's basketball team takes the court against UIC on Thursday night, they will have a robust cheering section at the UIC Pavilion.

After giving Green Bay the opportunity to climb back into the game, Josh Crittle made sure he picked up UIC down the stretch, scoring the last six points to push the Flames to a 60-57 victory over the visiting Phoenix at the UIC Pavilion.

INDIANAPOLIS -- UIC’s Sebastian Ostrowski and Cleveland State’s Alice Sommerville are the Horizon League Men’s and Women’s Swimmers of the Week for Jan. 21-27.

UIC junior Photis Karkalis (Mount Prospect, Ill.) and Loyola senior Gina Valgoi (Detroit, Mich.) have been named the Horizon League Indoor Runners of the Week. This is the first honor of the season for either runner.

INDIANAPOLIS -- UIC’s Mike Greco and Whitney Johnson are the Horizon League Men’s and Women’s Diver of the Week for Jan. 21-27.
