CHICAGO -- UIC women’s tennis head coach Shannon Tully has been named the Wilson/ITA Coach of the Year for the Midwest Region, as announced by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). This marks the first such accolade of Tully’s career.

INDIANAPOLIS – Cleveland State and UIC both saw their seasons come to an end on Friday afternoon, each falling 4-0 in the NCAA Tennis Tournaments. The Vikings, making their fifth appearance in six years on the men’s side, were knocked off by No. 5 Ohio State; meanwhile, in their 15^th consecutive berth in the women’s tournament, the Flames were dropped, 4-0, by Northwestern.

INDIANAPOLIS – Horizon League men’s tennis champion Cleveland State will travel to Ohio State for a first round match in the NCAA Men’s Tennis Tournament. On the women’s side, 17-time conference champion UIC will meet Northwestern, it was announced on Tuesday night.

For the last three years, Green Bay and Cleveland State have found themselves competing for a berth in the NCAA Men’s Tennis Tournament. And while each of the matches had its share of drama, nothing compared to Sunday’s Horizon League Tournament championship, in which both teams had opportunities to win. In the end, though, second-seeded Cleveland State captured its fifth conference title in the last six years with a dramatic 4-3 victory over No. 1 Green Bay.

Perhaps in its previous 16 Horizon League Women’s Tennis Championship matches has UIC not been pushed to the brink. But on Sunday afternoon at the West Indy Racquet Club, Youngstown State took the Flames to edge before UIC held on for its 17^th consecutive conference title, 4-3.

For the third straight season, Cleveland State and Green Bay will meet to decide the Horizon League men’s tennis title, while on the women’s side, UIC will go for its 17^th straight crown, taking on Youngstown State.

INDIANAPOLIS -- Both turning in perfect records in conference play, Green Bay sophomore Michael Tenzer and Youngstown State sophomore Paula de Man were voted the Horizon League Men’s and Women’s Tennis Players of the Year, respectively.

Wright State and Detroit advanced to the Horizon League Men’s Tennis Championship semifinals, while Cleveland State and Detroit followed suit on the women’s side in the first day of matches from the Barbara S. Wynne Tennis Center on the campus of North Central High School.

Cleveland State sophomore Jorg van der Vloet (Waalre, Netherlands) and Youngstown State sophomore Paula de Man (Eemens, Netherlands) have been named the Horizon League tennis Players of the Week. It is the second award of the season for van der Vloet and the second in a row, and third overall, for de Man.

INDIANAPOLIS – Green Bay earned the No. 1 seed for the 2013 Horizon League men’s tennis championship, while UIC clinched its 17^th consecutive regular-season women’s title, setting the stage for the 2013 tennis championships.
