Milwaukee Clinches No. 1 seed as field set for #HLWSOC Championship

INDIANAPOLIS – Milwaukee has secured the regular season title and the No. 1 seed as the field has been set for the 2018 Horizon League Women’s Soccer Championship with the conclusion of the League season on Friday. MKE will host the semifinals and championship matches of the Horizon League Women’s Soccer Championship Nov. 1-3 at Engelmann Stadium.

Milwaukee clinched the No. 1 spot for the fourth consecutive season with a record of 9-0 in HL play after a 3-0 win over Cleveland State at home and has an overall record of 15-1-0. The Panthers extended their Horizon League regular season unbeaten streak to 24 matches this season. This is the 11th time in program history that Milwaukee has hosted the Horizon League Championship. MKE will play its semifinal match at 8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT against the lowest-remaining seed after the quarterfinal matches.

Cleveland State secured the No. 2 seed with a League record of 6-2-1 and an overtime win over Northern Kentucky, the best finish for the Vikings in League play in program history. CSU will also receive a bye into the semifinals and will play the first match on Thursday at 5 p.m. ET/4 p.m. CT against the highest-remaining seed after the quarterfinal matches.

The 2018 #HLWSOC Championship begins on Monday, Oct. 29 with quarterfinal matches hosted by No. 3 seed Northern Kentucky and No. 4 seed Wright State. The Norse enter postseason play with a 6-2-1 record in League play and a 10-5-1 mark overall, while WSU is 6-8-2 overall this season with a 5-3-1 mark in HL matches.

NKU will host No. 6 seed Oakland, who ended the season with a 3-3-3 League record behind back-to-back wins to close the season, while WSU will welcome No. 5 seed Detroit Mercy who comes into the postseason with a 4-4-1 record in League play and 8-7-3 overall. Both quarterfinal matches will begin at 7 p.m. ET.
