The Valparaiso softball team earned its first NCAA Tournament victory in program history Saturday afternoon, defeating Central Michigan 7-4 in an elimination game in Ann Arbor, Mich. By virtue of the win, the Crusaders lived to play another elimination game, but Valpo fell in the final game of the day to #18/22 California 6-0, as Jolene Henderson tossed a no-hitter.

Senior Ryan Boss came through in the clutch for the UIC baseball team (26-26, 13-11 HL) in a 1-0 win against Wright State (22-28, 9-12 HL) on Saturday afternoon to claim the series and regular season finale. With runners on first and second in the ninth inning, Boss slapped a single up the middle to score Andres Ortegano and record the lone run of the day.

Wormington induces game-ending double play with bases loaded in the 9th; Crusaders hang on 3-2. Valpo will face UIC Thursday morning at 11:00 am ET/10:00 am CT in Niles, Ohio in the Horizon League Conference Tournament.

UIC pushed across a run in the top of the ninth for the only run of the game in 1-0 decision over Wright State in the baseball regular-season finale for both teams Saturday afternoon at Nischwitz Stadium.

In its opening game of the Ann Arbor Regional of the 2013 NCAA Tournament, Valparaiso held #7/8 Michigan to its second-fewest runs scored at home this season, but the Crusaders could muster just two hits as the Wolverines downed Valpo by a 5-0 final. The Crusaders will take on Central Michigan at 1:30 p.m. CT on Saturday afternoon.

Junior John Coen blasted a grand slam in a five-run second inning for the UIC baseball team (25-26, 12-11 HL) as the Flames defeated Wright State (22-27, 9-11 HL) by a final of 10-8 on Friday evening at Nischwitz Field. It was Coen's first collegiate homer as he paced UIC at the plate by going 3-for-5 with four RBI and two runs.

Chris DeBoo worked into the eighth inning as he earned his fourth win of the year; Bain, Bynum, Burns all had multi-hit games Friday against Youngstown State. Valpo goes for sweep Saturday at 1:00 pm on Senior Day.

The baseball team nearly rallied back from a 6-0 deficit, but fell just short as UIC held on for a 10-8 Horizon League victory Friday night at Nischwitz Stadium.

Valparaiso scored three unearned runs in the fifth inning and scored twice in the bottom of the eighth once Youngstown State cut the margin to one in a 7-4 victory over the Penguins on Friday afternoon at Emory G. Bauer Field.

The baseball team scratched out a run in the seventh and another in the eighth to pull out a 3-2 Horizon League win over UIC Thursday night at Nischwitz Stadium.
