Former Detroit women's basketball player Caitie Goddard is blogging from the African country of Uganda during an eight-week volunteer trip.

The profile on Goddard's blog says "after leaving a relatively secure and comfortable desk job in May 2008, I headed to Madrid, Spain, with the intention of learning Spanish to get a job in the international field of business. Along the way, I discovered I have an insatiable desire to learn about the entire world, not just 'La vida en Espana' as well as do my best to improve and enhance any area/person I meet. This journey to Uganda will hopefully help me grow as a 'world citizen' and share the experience with others!"

Goddard, who played at Detroit from 2002-06, ranks among the school's all-time leaders in three-point field goals made (7th, 112), free-throw percentage (7th, .748) and three-point percentage (T-7th, .367).

Goddard posted UDM's second-best, single-season three-point percentage in 2005-06 (.453). She was also named the Horizon League's Newcomer of the Year in 2003.
