(Dec. 17, 2018) — Three Northern Kentucky players scored in double figures on Sunday; however, UMBC — led by Jairus Lyles, the America East Conference’s leading scorer (20.8 ppg) — edged the visiting Norse, 76-75, in Baltimore. Lyles finished with a game-high 31 points and scored the Retrievers’ final 11 points of regulation, allowing UMBC to transform a 68-65 deficit into a 76-75 winning margin. Drew McDonald and Carson Williams led NKU with 24 and 21 points, respectively, while Lavone Holland II tallied 15 points.

BALTIMORE — Jairus Lyles broke the 12th tie with a short bank shot with 1:32 to play, giving him 31 points, and Maryland Baltimore County edged Northern Kentucky 76-75 on Sunday. Lavone Holland II, an 85 percent free throw shooter, made 1 of 2 for the Norse with 1:19 to play. Both teams missed opportunities until Holland got the final shot. He drove into the lane and challenged two defenders near the basket but his floater bounced off the back rim as time ran out.
