Horizon League Women’s Basketball Players of the Week (December 26)

INDIANAPOLIS- Wright State’s Chelsea Welch averaged 27 points and eight assists per game this week while facing two teams in the top 75 of the NCAA RPI on the road. Welch is the Horizon League Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the second time this season. IUPUI’s Macee Williams averaged 19.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game this week while shooting .889 from the field, earning her Freshman of the Week honors for the third time this season.

Chelsea Welch had two big games in road contests this past week. Welch scored 29 points at Belmont and 25 at Georgia to average 27.0 points for the week. The senior also had a career high 10 assists to end the week with 16 total assists. She shot .724 from the field, .857 from three and .667 from the line. The guard also added 6 total rebounds and two steals.

Williams continued her fantastic start to her freshman year averaging 19.5 points on 89 percent shooting, and 7.5 rebounds as IUPUI went 1-1 over their last two non-conference games. In the Jags win at Georgia Southern, Williams went 7-for-9 from the field and 4-for-6 from the free throw line for a team-high 18 points and was tied for the team lead with nine rebounds while only playing 19 minutes. She outdid herself two days later in the Jags loss at DePaul scoring a career-high 21 points on a perfect 9-for-9 from the field and 3-for-5 from the foul line in only 21 minutes of action. Williams pulled down six rebounds and finished with two steals against the Blue Demons.
