(Jan. 12, 2018) — The home teams went 4-0 on Friday night to conclude this week’s Horizon League men’s basketball action. Oakland, Detroit Mercy, IUPUI, and UIC each earned victories, with three players tallying 30-plus-point outings, including two UDM players. Oakland’s Jalen Hayes notched his conference-leading ninth double-double with a 30-point, 11-rebound effort in the Golden Grizzlies’ 81-68 win over Cleveland State. Meanwhile, Corey Allen (34 points) and Jermaine Jackson Jr. (32 points) combined to score 66 of UDM’s 93 points as the Titans bested Youngstown State, 93-91. Additionally, IUPUI’s Ron Patterson scored a team-high 16 points in the Jaguars’ 67-61 win over Green Bay, and Dikembe Dixson (22 points) recorded his second-consecutive 20-plus-point game as the Flames topped Milwaukee, 88-73.

Strong second half lifts Oakland over Cleveland State, 81-68
(Courtesy of GoldenGrizzlies.com) — ROCHESTER, Mich. — Jalen Hayes recorded his Horizon League-leading ninth double-double of the season by scoring 30 points and grabbing 11 rebounds as the Oakland men's basketball team defeated Cleveland State 81-68 Friday night at the O'rena. Hayes, who was a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line, notched his third 30 point game of this career, all of which have came this season. Kendrick Nunn dished out a career high eight assists and scored 18 of his 20 points in the second half, including five three-pointers.

Allen, Jackson Jr. too much for Youngstown State
(Courtesy of DetroitTitans.com) — DETROIT — Sophomore Corey Allen tallied a game-high 33 points and freshman Jermaine Jackson Jr. posted a season-best 30 as the University of Detroit Mercy men's basketball team won its second-straight game, 93-91, over Youngstown State on Friday night. The Titans (6-13, 2-4 HL) trailed by as many as 11 in the first half and seven in the second, but Detroit Mercy would rally past Youngstown State (5-13, 3-2 HL) on the strength of s 24-10 run.

Jaguars' defense leads to 67-61 victory
(Courtesy of IUPUIJags.com) — INDIANAPOLIS — After picking up a win in dramatic fashion on Wednesday night (Jan. 12), the Jaguars made sure that late game heroics weren't necessary. IUPUI (6-11, 3-3 HL) picked up their biggest win of the year thus far with a 67-61 win over Green Bay (7-13, 2-5 HL), sweeping the season series with the Phoenix. On a night that featured ugly weather outside, both sides started out cold from the floor. It was largely in part to sloppy play on both ends, and the Jaguars amassed seven turnovers before the second media timeout. The energy was there, however, and the Jaguars started to find a rhythm on the offensive end.

Flames take third-straight game, top Panthers, 88-73
(Courtesy of UICFlames.com) — CHICAGO — Dikembe Dixson scored 22 points, and Marcus Ottey added 20, to lead UIC (8-10, 3-2 HL) to an 88-73 win over Milwaukee (9-10, 2-4 HL) Friday evening at UIC Pavilion.  UIC's torrid shooting set hte tone for a wire-to-wire win, their third straight in Horizon League play and fifth in their last six home contests. The Flames defeated their rivals to the north for the third straight time in regular season play.  Though the Panthers had five players score in double figures, the Flames' defense universally frustrated Milwaukee shooters.  UIC held Milwaukee to just 27.6% shooting in the first half, which was the best field goal defense in any half of conference play to date.
