(Jan. 4, 2018) — Aided by senior Kenny Carpenter’s team-best 20 points (10-14 FG), Cleveland State edged Green Bay, 80-79, on Thursday night. The Vikings’ intrastate rival, Youngstown State, also benefited from a standpoint performance from a senior guard as Cameron Morse hit five 3-pointers and finished with 25 points to lead the Penguins to a 72-63 win over Milwaukee. Approximately 350 miles southwestward in Indianapolis, UIC downed host IUPUI, 70-65, as sophomores Marcus Ottey and Dikembe Dixon tallied 19 points apiece.
Vikings use four in double figures to top Green Bay, 80-79

CLEVELAND — Cleveland State had four players in double figures, including Bobby Word who reached 1,000 career points as the Vikings won their first Horizon League game of the season with an 80-79 victory over Green Bay on Thursday night. CSU moves to 4-11 overall and 1-1 in the League, while the Phoenix fell to 7-10 overall (2-2 HL).

Flames roar back to stun Jaguars, 70-65

INDIANAPOLIS — UIC trailed by as many as 13 points Thursday night, but orchestrated a tremendous second-half comeback to topple the IUPUI Jaguars, 70-65, to earn its first road win of the season and the first victory in Horizon League play. After trailing by seven at the break, the Flames (6-10, 1-2 Horizon League) shot 48.8 percent for the game and turned the ball over only five times in the second half to defeat the Jaguars (4-11, 1-3 Horizon League). Both Marcus Ottey and Dikembe Dixson scored a game-high 19 points to lead UIC to victory. Dixson, a sophomore, became only the 22nd player in program history to reach 1,000 career points. Ottey missed only two field goals (7-of-9) and one free throw (5-of-6) while adding six rebounds, three steals and a pair of assists.

Morse leads Youngstown State past Milwaukee, 72-63

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — Senior Cameron Morse scored a season-high 25 points and made five 3-pointers to lead the Youngstown State men's basketball team to a 72-63 win over Milwaukee on Thursday night at the Beeghly Center. With the win, the Penguins improve to 4-11 overall and 2-0 in the Horizon League. It marks Youngstown State first 2-0 start since joining the league in 2001-02. Milwaukee falls to 8-8 overall and 1-2 in the league.
