Horizon League Announces 2019 #HLXC Athletes of the Year

INDIANAPOLIS – Oakland senior Maggie Schneider has been named the 2019 Horizon League Cross Country Women’s Athlete of the Year, while Oakland sophomore Connor Goetz and Wright State senior Nathan Dunn earned 2019 #HLXC Co-Men’s Athlete of the Year. The 2019 Athletes of the Year are voted on by the League’s head cross country coaches.

Maggie Schneider was the top finisher of the 2019 Horizon League Cross Country Championship’s 6k, picking up a record setting third consecutive individual title. The Golden Grizzlies also took home their fourth ever #HLXC Championship team title, edging out runner-up Youngstown State by nine points. She was also named to the 2019 Horizon League Women’s Cross Country All-Academic Team.
Schneider’s record setting success continued to the 2019 Great Lakes Regional where she finished in the top 25 and became the third female in Oakland’s program to earn all-region and the second to ever qualify for nationals. The 2019 NCAA Division I Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Championships take place in Terre Haute, Ind. at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course on November 23. The women’s race will begin at 11:15 a.m. Eastern Time, followed by the men’s race at 12:15 p.m. Eastern Time.
Connor Goetz was able to cross the line first to win the 8k at the 2019 Horizon League Cross Country Championship, being the Oakland’s first individual champion since 2016. Goetz continued the momentum when he ran a 31:32.3 10k to take 45th place in the 2019 Great Lakes Regional where his season ended. He was also named to the 2019 Horizon League Men’s Cross Country All-Academic Team.
Nathan Dunn of Wright State finished 0.3 seconds behind Goetz to earn runner-up in the 2019 Horizon League Cross Country Championship. He finished 31:16.4 to earn 33rd at the 2019 Great Lakes Regional. Dunn closed out his career by leading the Raiders men’s team in each of their six races. He was also named to the 2019 Horizon League Men’s Cross Country All-Academic Team.
