Milwaukee Triumphs In 2019 #HLWSOC Championship
MILWAUKEE, Wisc. – No. 1 seeded Milwaukee captured the 2019 Horizon League Women’s Soccer Championship, defeating No. 2 seed UIC 2-0 at Engelmann Stadium on Saturday night. The Panthers earned their twelfth tournament championship in school history.
The action picked up early in the match with Milwaukee’s Rachel Phillpotts netting the first goal of the match off of a corner kick at the 8:53 mark, scoring her fifth goal of the season. She was assisted by teammates Gabby Schwartz and McKaela Schmelzer.
The next goal of the match came late in the second half with tournament MVP Haley Johnson finding the back of the net after an assist from Defensive Player of the Year, McKaela Schmelzer. Johnson leads the Panthers in goals with nine this season.
Milwaukee will enter the NCAA Division I Women’s Soccer Tournament for the ninth time since 2008. The 2019 NCAA Women’s Soccer Championship bracket will be announced Monday, Nov. 11 on NCAA.com.
