INDIANAPOLIS – We are just over two weeks away from the start of the #HLMBB season with Northern Kentucky and Wright State tied on top of the standings at 7-3 during the non-conference season, followed by Milwaukee, Oakland and Youngstown State at 5-5.
#HLMBB NEWS & NOTES
• For the first time this season, the Horizon League has two teams in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top-25 poll, with the Raiders coming in at No. 17 and the Norse tabbed at No. 24.
• NKU’s Dantez Walton earned his third straight #HLMBB Player of the Week honor, becoming the first player since Dayton’s Negele Knight during the 1989-90 season to achieve the feat.
• Preseason Player of the Year Antoine Davis of Detroit Mercy continues to lead the HL in scoring and ranks fourth in the NCAA as he is averaging 23.8 points per game. In addition, he is top 50 in the country in free throw percentage (89.3) and steals per game (2.4).
• Davis scored 27 points against Notre Dame on Tuesday to become the fastest Titan in school history to reach 1,000 career points.
• IUPUI’s Marcus Burk is right behind Davis ranked 41st in the country with 19.7 points per contest, while ranking 21st in 3-pointers per game at 3.30 and shooting 44.0 percent from long range, good for 45th in the country.
• Xavier Hill-Mais of Oakland is having a fantastic senior season for the Golden Grizzlies as he is the only qualifying Horizon League player to rank both top-5 in points (15.9) and rebounds (7.9) per game. Last week, he averaged 24.0 points and 10.5 rebounds per game as Oakland went 1-1.
• Northern Kentucky is one of the best teams in the nation from long range as they rank 47th in the NCAA in 3-point field goals made per game at 9.2. The Norse are also one of the best in defending the three as they hold opponents to a 25.4 3-point field goal percentage, ranked seventh in the nation.
• Green Bay continues to be one of the best offensive teams in the country as the Phoenix are 26th in the NCAA in scoring offense at 81.7 points per game, while also ranking 15th in assists per game with 16.9 dimes per contest. Amari Davis is a three-time winner of the #HLMBB Freshman of the Week honor and is 14th in the country in freshman scoring at 15.1 points per game.
• Youngstown State continues to hit the offensive glass as the Penguins are 15th in the NCAA in offensive rebounds per game with 13.9 and 38th in total rebounds per game at 40.4. Naz Bohannon is leading the charge on the glass grabbing 3.7 offensive boards per game, 26th in the NCAA.
