INDIANAPOLIS – Week 8 of the #HLMBB season began on Thursday with UIC and Detroit Mercy earning road wins, while Green Bay and Youngstown State picked up home wins.

Youngstown State 75, IUPUI 73
The Penguins made it five wins in a row on Thursday night and improved to 7-7 in HL play after outlasting IUPUI, 75-73, on Thursday at home. YSU was led by Darius Quisenberry with 17 points and eight assists, while Jelani Simmons also chipped in 17 points and Michael Akuchie added 14 on 6-of-7 shooting from the floor. IUPUI finished with four players in double figures as D.J. McCall recorded 16 points and eight boards and Ahmed Ismail added 15 points and eight rebounds. The Jaguars drop to 6-7 during #HLMBB play.
UIC 81, Cleveland State 77
UIC is now 8-5 in League play after claiming an 81-77 road win on Thursday at Cleveland State to extend its winning streak to four games. The Flames shot 50.9 percent from the field and had four players finish in double figures led by Marcus Ottey with a game-high 20 points and Tarkus Ferguson with 19. Tyree Appleby had another solid performance for the Vikings with 16 points, five assists and four rebounds, while Rashad Williams hit four 3-pointers.
Detroit Mercy 90, Milwaukee 84
Detroit Mercy are back to .500 in League play after earning its first road win in HL play since December with a 90-84 victory at Milwaukee. The Titans had a pair of 20-point scorers in Antoine Davis, who finished with 27 points on five triples, and Josh McFolley, who ended the game with 22. DeAndre Abram led all scorers with 28 points on 12-of-19 shooting including four 3-pointers as MKE finished with five players in double figures. The Panthers have dropped six in a row and are now 4-9 in League play.
Green Bay 66, Oakland 54
The Phoenix have risen to fourth place in the HL standings after claiming a home win over Oakland on Thursday night, 66-54. Green Bay earned the win in a defensive battle that saw both teams shoot 34 percent from the field. ShanQuan Hemphill registered a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds and Kameron Hankerson also added 13 points. Oakland’s Brad Brechting continues to play well in the second half of the League season posting 15 points and 15 rebounds and Xavier Hill-Mais tallied 14 points and nine boards. The Golden Grizzlies fall to .500 in HL play at 7-7.

MOTOR CITY MADNESS
The 2019 Little Caesars Horizon League Basketball Championships will begin March 5-6 at highest seeds and will culminate with the semifinal and championship games on March 11-12 at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit.
