Full List of Honorees
GREENWOOD, Ind. – (NKUNorse.com) The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) released the 2018-19 Google Cloud Academic All-District® Teams on Thursday afternoon, with Northern Kentucky women's basketball sophomore
Kailey Coffey earning a nod on the District 2 team. Coffey is one of just five players from the district selected to the team.
District 2 is comprised of institutions located in Kentucky, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Maryland, New Jersey, Delaware and Washington, D.C. In order to be selected for Academic All-District recognition, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale who has completed at least one year at his/her current institution and has competed in at least 50 percent of the institution's contests in the current season. Coffey easily meets the requirements, as she holds a flawless 4.00 GPA in chemistry, boasting the highest grade point average in District 2, and has started in all 24 games for the Norse this season. She is also one of just four sophomores selected to a Division I district team.
Aside from her academic prowess, Coffey has been instrumental for the Norse on the court. The sophomore forward leads the team with 8.0 rebounds per game, which has increased to 9.2 boards per contest in league action, putting her at second in Horizon League rankings. Coffey also averages 7.3 points and 2.1 assists per game while playing a team-high 29.6 minutes per game. She has posted two double-doubles this season, including 15 points and 11 rebounds at then-No. 3 Louisville.
"Kailey continues to excel in the classroom and on the court for our women's basketball team," said head coach
Camryn Whitaker. "Her work ethic and willingness to go above and beyond are the things that are bringing her such success and demonstrate the culture of our team! I am so proud of who Kailey is as a person and could not think of a more deserving person for this honor."
Coffey is now eligible for Academic All-America honors, which will be announced on Monday, March 11. All student-athletes who were named to the first team of their respective districts will be placed into a ballot that will be voted upon by CoSIDA representatives.
