INDIANAPOLIS – IUPUI Director of Athletics Dr. Roderick Perry has announced the Bren Vasalakis has been named the next head coach of the men's tennis program.
Vasalakis has spent the last seven seasons as the Jaguars assistant coach and was named associate head coach last season. Vasalakis has spent over a decade in the Jaguar program, playing for the Jags during his collegiate career.
"I am very excited and thankful for the opportunity Dr. Perry and IUPUI athletics has given me to take over as head coach for this program," said Vasalakis. "I look forward to continue to work with a great administration and the fellow coaches to create an atmosphere of success for our student athletes."
Vasalakis has been instrumental in the recent success of the men's tennis program, helping recruit last season's Horizon League Freshman of the Year Alex Jochim, as well as Second Team All-League player Sean Bailey.
"We are excited to announce Bren as the next head coach of our men's tennis program," said Perry. "He has been with this program for over a decade both as a player and a coach and has shown great dedication to and passion for this program. We believe that what he has brought to the program as an assistant coach will help elevate our men's tennis team to the next level."
Vasalakis has coached eight other All-League performers when IUPUI was a part of the Summit League and in his first season as an assistant coach, helped guided the Jags to a third-straight appearance in the Summit League Championship match.
During his time as an assistant, IUPUI made the conference tournament in all but one season and earned a spot in the Horizon League Semifinals last season.
As a player for the Jaguars, Vasalakis was a four-year letter winner and three-year captain for the Jags. He participated in the 2011 conference title match in both singles and doubles. Off the court, Vasalakis was a three-time Summit League Commissioner's List of Academic Excellence honoree and earned a spot on the IUPUI Academic Advisor's List seven times. He graduated from IUPUI in 2012 with a degree in kinesiology.
