INDIANAPOLIS – Week 2 of the #HLMBB season is ready to tip off with Wright State, Youngstown State and Oakland the only undefeated teams after Week 1 with the Raiders and Golden Grizzlies facing off in the first #FridayisHLMBB game of the season on ESPNU at 7 p.m. ET.
#HLMBB NEWS & NOTES
• Wright State remains ranked No. 13 in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top-25 poll after starting #HLMBB play 2-0 and are currently riding a five-game winning streak.
• The Raiders boast the second-best scoring offense in the HL at 81.5 points per game, while Oakland ranks tops in the League in scoring defense allowing just 65.1 points per game.
• WSU have been the most balanced team this season as they have had six different players total 20 points or more in a game. WSU also leads #HLMBB in rebounding and has had four separate players grab 10 or more boards in a game.
• Oakland, normally an offensive-minded team, has been getting it done on the defensive end this season. The Golden Grizzlies rank first in the HL points allowed and also ranking first in field-goal percentage defense, holding teams to under 40 percent shooting from the floor.
• Preseason Player of the Year Antoine Davis of Detroit Mercy continues to lead the HL in scoring and ranks second in the NCAA as he is averaging 25.6 points per game. In addition, he is top 50 in the country in free throw percentage (93.1), 3-pointers per game (3.38) and steals per game (2.08).
• Youngstown State has started #HLMBB play 2-0 for the second time in three season and continues to hit the offensive glass as the Penguins are 27th in the NCAA in offensive rebounds per game with 13.2 and 38th in total rebounds per game at 40.3. Naz Bohannon is leading the charge on the glass grabbing 3.8 offensive boards per game, 19th in the NCAA.
• Cleveland State picked up its first win of the League season as Tre Gomillion tipped in the game-winning lay-up as time expired to earn a road win over IUPUI.
• Amari Davis of Green Bay is a four-time winner of the #HLMBB Freshman of the Week honor and ranks in the top 10 nationally among freshmen at 15.5 points per game and leads the HL shooting 54.4 percent from the floor.
• UIC’s Tarkus Ferguson continues to do a little bit of everything for the Flames as he leads the HL in assists per game at 4.8, while also leading the team and ranking top-20 in the League in points and rebounds.
• The Phoenix continue to be one of the best offensive teams in the country as they are 15th in the NCAA in scoring offense at 82.1 points per game, while also ranking 21st in assists per game at 17.0 and shooting 38.0 percent from behind the arc to rank 27th in the NCAA.
• The Norse are one of the best in defending the three as they hold opponents to a 26.6 3-point field goal percentage, ranked 11th in the nation.
• Milwaukee has a dynamic duo of its own in Darius Roy and Te’Jon Lucas as they both rank top-12 in the Horizon League in points, combining for 30.1 points per game, and assists, totaling 7.4 assists per game.
• The HL had four players tabbed on the Lou Henson Award Preseason Watch List as Davis, Oakland’s Xavier Hill-Mais, Loudon Love of Wright State and Northern Kentucky’s Jalen Tate were tabbed on the list. The Lou Henson Award is presented annually to the nation’s top Division I mid-major player.
