INDIANAPOLIS –  Week five of #HLWBB play started on Thursday night with Northern Kentucky and Wright State earning home victories.

Northern Kentucky 69, Oakland 60
  • Northern Kentucky outlasted Oakland, 69-60, on Thursday night to improve to 4-4 in League play while Oakland fell to 3-5.
  • The Golden Grizzlies led 14-11 after the first quarter, but the Norse responded in the second, taking a two-point lead into the break and using a strong third quarter to stretch the lead to nine with ten minutes to play.
  • Ally Niece was terrific for NKU, totaling a career-high 22 points, adding five assists and four rebounds.
  • A trio of Oakland players totaled 11 points each to lead the Golden Grizzlies on offense.
Wright State 67, Detroit Mercy 61
  • Wright State (6-2) topped Detroit Mercy (2-6) 67-61, at the Nutter Center on Thursday.
  • In a tight battle, the Raiders found an advantage on the glass, totaling 22 offensive rebounds and outrebounding the Titans, 45-31, overall.
  • Tyler Frierson had a great night for the Raiders, posting a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds while Angel Baker dished out 11 assists for WSU, and Shamarre Hale added 10 points and 13 rebounds.
  • Sylare Starks scored 14 points to lead the Detroit Mercy offense.

HORIZON LEAGUE BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS
The 2020 Horizon League Basketball Championships will begin March 3 and 5 at campus sites and eight teams – four men and four women – will look to advance to Indianapolis and #REACHtheHORIZON on March 9-10 at the Indiana Farmers Coliseum.

Every game of the tournament will be carried on ESPN networks and four of the six games in Indianapolis will appear on national television.
