INDIANAPOLIS – The second half of the #HLMBB season begins this week as we’ve reached the final stretch before all 10 teams look to #REACHtheHORIZON in Indianapolis. This week features a pivotal matchup as Northern Kentucky travels to Green Bay in a #FridayisHLMBB matchup on ESPNU at 9 p.m. ET.
#HLMBB NEWS & NOTES
• Wright State remains at No. 10 in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top-25 poll with Northern Kentucky continuing to receive votes.
• The Raiders are 8-1 to start #HLMBB play and have been dominant so far this season. In HL play they rank tops in scoring, rebounding, 3-point field goal percentage and blocks. Nationally, WSU is ninth in the country in scoring offense with 81.5 points per game and seventh in rebounds per game at 41.5.
• Loudon Love has been a force during HL play this season as he is the only player to rank top-6 in scoring (17.1) and top-5 in rebounds (11.2). The junior is leading the League with 5.3 offensive boards per game and is tied for the most double-doubles (5) and 20-point performances (4) during the first half of League play.
• The Norse sit in second place in the HL standings after the first half of the season and boast the best scoring defense in the HL at 66.3 points per game as they rank 10th in the NCAA in 3-point field goal percentage defense, allowing teams to shoot just 28.2 percent from deep.
• The Phoenix continue to be one of the best offensive teams in the country as they are eighth in the NCAA in scoring offense at 81.9 points per game, while also ranking eighth in assists per game at 17.2, 10th in assist-to-turnover ratio and shooting 38.0 percent from behind the arc to rank 23rd in the NCAA.
• Amari Davis of Green Bay is a six-time winner of the #HLMBB Freshman of the Week honor, tied for the fifth-most in League history, and ranks tied for sixth in the HL and top-15 nationally among freshmen at 15.7 points per game and is second in the HL shooting 51.4 percent from the floor.
• The HL had three players tabbed on the Lou Henson Award Midseason Watch List as Detroit Mercy’s Antoine Davis, Loudon Love of Wright State and Northern Kentucky’s Dantez Walton were tabbed on the list. The Lou Henson Award is presented annually to the nation’s top Division I mid-major player.
• Preseason Player of the Year Antoine Davis of Detroit Mercy continues to lead the HL in scoring and ranks fourth in the NCAA as he is averaging 23.3 points per game. In addition, he is top-10 in the country in free throw percentage (93.3) and 3-pointers per game (3.38).
• Youngstown State is tied for third place after nine games and continues to hit the offensive glass as the Penguins are fifth in the NCAA in offensive rebounds per game with 14.1 and 24th in total rebounds per game at 40.1. Naz Bohannon is leading the charge on the glass grabbing 3.8 offensive boards per game, 16th in the NCAA. During HL play, Bohannon also leads the League shooting 55.4 percent from the floor.
• Milwaukee is the final team tied for third in the standings at 5-4. The Panthers are led by Te’Jon Lucas who is seventh during HL play with 16.4 points per game and is also the League leader in steals, third in assists and top-10 in field goal percentage.
• Tarkus Ferguson continues to do a little bit of everything for UIC as they have won three of its last four games. Ferguson is leading the team in points, rebounds, assists, blocks and steals, while leading the HL with 5.0 assists per game.
• IUPUI’s Marcus Burk and Jaylen Minnett are two of the top three scorers during #HLMBB play as Burk is leading with 22.3 points per game and Minnett is scoring 19.6, good for third. In addition, Elyjah Goss is the top rebounder with 14.7 boards per HL contest and eighth in the NCAA with 4.00 offensive boards.
• Cleveland State has had a balanced scoring attack so far during Horizon League play as Craig Beaudion and Algevon Eichelberger are both averaging 14 points per game, followed by Torrey Patton at 12.8. Patton is second in field-goal percentage in the HL at 54.8 percent and is grabbing 6.4 rebounds per game, while Beaudion is dishing 4.7 assists per contest.
