INDIANAPOLIS – Sunday marked the end of Week 1 of #HLMBB play and after the first weekend Wright State, Milwaukee, Cleveland State and UIC each completed weekend sweeps, while Youngstown State was able to split its opening weekend series on the road on ESPN2.

Wright State 85, Detroit Mercy 72
  • Wright State started Horizon League play 2-0 for the second year in a row after completing the series sweep of the Titans on the road.
  • WSU’s powerful frontcourt led the charge as Loudon Love finished with 26 points and 13 rebounds, while Grant Basile added 21 points and eight boards.
  • The Titans ended the game with a pair of players with 20-plus points led by Bul Kuol with 21 and Matt Johnson with 20.
  • The Raiders ended the game shooting 58 percent from the field and outscored Detroit Mercy 50-28 in points in the paint.
Milwaukee 74, Green Bay 62
  • Milwaukee claimed its first two wins of the #HLMBB season at the hands of its in-state rival Green Bay, earning the series sweep of the Phoenix for the first time since 2011-12.
  • DeAndre Gholston recorded a double-double for the Panthers with 18 points and 10 rebounds to highlight four MKE players in double-figures.
  • Green Bay’s Amari Davis led all scorers with 21 points including shooting 3-of-4 from long range.
  • The Panthers won the rebounding battle 39-30 and outscored the Phoenix 40-22 in the paint.
Youngstown State 70, Northern Kentucky 60
  • In front of a national television audience on ESPN2, YSU earned a 10-point victory on the road to split its weekend series at Northern Kentucky.
  • Youngstown State was led by Naz Bohannon with 19 points and Michael Akuchie registered a double-double with 14 points and 12 boards.
  • NKU’s Trevon Faulkner scored a game-high 20 points and Adrian Nelson was just shy of a double-double with 12 rebounds and nine points.
  • The Penguins trailed by two points at the half, but won the second half 45-33 to earn the victory shooting 53.9 percent from the floor including shooting 55.6 percent from 3-point range in the period.
Cleveland State 89, Purdue Fort Wayne 80
  • The Vikings earned its second-straight victory at Purdue Fort Wayne and start #HLMBB play 2-0 for the first time since 2014-15.
  • D'Moi Hodge tallied 46 points for Cleveland State on 15-of-23 shooting including making 10 3-pointers. It is the most points scored by a HL player since Detroit Mercy’s Antoine Davis totaled 48 on Jan. 3, 2019 and the most by a CSU player since Damon Stringer tallied 47 on Jan. 29, 2000.
  • The 46 points are the most scored in a Division I game this season. Hodge’s 31-point first half, eight first half 3-pointers and 10 total triples are all new school records.  
  • Jarred Godfrey had another good game for the Mastodons as he finished with 23 points, his second consecutive contest with 20-plus points.
UIC 90, Oakland 73
  • UIC was the fourth team to complete the weekend series sweep and now start League play with back-to-back wins for the first time since the 2007-08 campaign.
  • Teyvion Kirk posted just the third triple-double in UIC program history with 22 points, 11 assists and 11 rebounds. Rob Howard scored a career-high 23 points to lead the Flames.
  • Rashad Williams led the Golden Grizzlies with 20 points. Daniel Oladapo tallied his second-straight double-double with 19 points and 18 rebounds, while Jalen Moore added a double-double of his own with 10 points and 10 assists.
  • The Flames shot 53 percent from the field and held Oakland to just 38 percent from the floor including 21 percent from long range.
Marshall 85, RMU 71
  • In a non-conference game, RMU played at Marshall with four players finishing in double figures led by AJ Bramah with 18 points and he added a team-best six rebounds.
