INDIANAPOLIS – Saturday’s #HLMBB action saw the top two teams in the standings battle for victories as Northern Kentucky held off a Youngstown State comeback to secure a top-2 seed at the Horizon League Basketball Championships and a bye to the semifinals in Indianapolis, while Wright State went to overtime with Cleveland State and came out on top to hold a one-game lead over the Norse heading into next week’s matchup with the regular season title on the line. In addition, UIC picked up its ninth win during #HLMBB play and is now in a tie for fourth place in the standings.

  • The Norse secured a bye to the semifinals of the Horizon League Basketball Championships by holding its 10th opponent of the season to under 60 points.
  • NKU’s Dantez Walton recorded his second-straight 20-point performance with 20 points on 50 percent shooting and Jalen Tate added 18 points on 8-of-13 shooting.
  • Donel Cathcart scored a team-best 14 points for Youngstown State and Naz Bohannon fell just short of a double-double with 13 points and nine boards.
  • The Norse led by as many as 16 points early in the second half and held off a big Penguins comeback to earn the two-point victory.
Wright State 81, Cleveland State 74 (OT)
  • The Raiders hold on to a one-game lead in the race for the Horizon League’s regular season title heading into the regular season finale with their first overtime win of the season.
  • Four WSU players finished with double figures led by Bill Wampler with 23 points and Loudon Love nearly registered a double-double with 22 points and nine rebounds.
  • A short-handed Cleveland State team battled in its final regular season home game as Torrey Patton finished with 21 points and 11 rebounds for his first double-double of the season. Hugo Ferreira finished with 14 points and Algevon Eichelberger scored 13 and grabbed nine boards.
  • Wright State head coach Scott Nagy earned his 500th career victory.
UIC 77, IUPUI 72
  • UIC kept pace for a first round home game during the Horizon League Basketball Championships as it improved to 9-7 in #HLMBB play.
  • Marcus Ottey had a team-high 16 points for the Flames and Jamie Ahale went 5-for-5 from the 3-point line to finish with 15 points.
  • IUPUI’s Marcus Burk recorded 28 points with six assists, while Elyjah Goss tallied his League-best 11th double-double of the season with 10 points and 18 rebounds.
  • UIC outscored IUPUI 23-2 in bench points.
