INDIANAPOLIS – Friday marked the start of Week 5 of #HLMBB play with Cleveland State winning in dramatic fashion on ESPNU, while Detroit Mercy and IUPUI picked up their first wins of the season, Purdue Fort Wayne won its third in a row and both Oakland and UIC stopped two-game losing slides.

IUPUI 74, Northern Kentucky 69
- IUPUI claimed its first win of the HL season on Friday with a five-point road win over NKU.
- Marcus Burk and Jaylen Minnett led the charge for IUPUI as Burk finished with 27 points and shot 6-of-7 from long range, while Minnett added 18 points.
- Four players for the Norse finished in double figures with Marques Warrick posting 20 points on four triples and Trevon Faulkner chipping in 19 points and nine rebounds.
- The Jags were able to outscore the Norse 10-2 in the final 2:33 of the game as Minnett scored six over the stretch to earn the victory.
Purdue Fort Wayne 81, Milwaukee 72
- The Mastodons extend their win streak to three games and improve to 4-5 in Horizon League play after claiming its first road win of the season.
- Jarred Godfrey registered his second double-double during HL play for Purdue Fort Wayne with 23 points and 10 rebounds while also adding seven assists. Dylan Carl went 5-for-5 from the floor to record 12 points.
- DeAndre Gholston scored a team-high 16 points for the Panthers, while Josh Thomas collected 13 and Tafari Simms added 10 off the bench. Milwaukee suffered just its first loss at home this season.
- Purdue Fort Wayne shot 66 percent in the second half as they scored 22 of the last 34 points over the final 7:30 of the game to secure the win.
Detroit Mercy 86, Green Bay 61
- Detroit Mercy also picked up its first #HLMBB win of the season with an impressive shooting performance.
- The Titans were led by Antoine Davis who finished with 26 points with five 3-pointers and eight assists, while Bul Kuol went a perfect 5-for-5 from distance to end the game with 19 points.
- PJ Pipes tallied a team-best 17 points for the Phoenix with five 3-pointers and Josh Jefferson recorded 10 points.
- Detroit Mercy had one of the best shooting performances of the season as the Titans shot 66 percent (31-47) from the field including tying a program record with 17 triples on 26 attempts for a 65 percent 3-point shooting percentage.
Oakland 82, Youngstown State 65
- The Golden Grizzlies got back into the win column after dropping a pair last weekend to improve to 4-5 in the League and 2-1 inside the O’rena.
- Oakland’s Jalen Moore finished with 18 points and 14 assists, tied for the most assists by a HL player this season, while Daniel Oladapo registered his League-best fifth double-double during Horizon League play with 11 points and 10 boards. Rashad Williams also added 18 points.
- Four YSU players recorded double-figures led by Hunter Myles with 18 on four 3-pointers and Naz Bohannon fell one rebound shy of a double-double with 11 points and nine rebounds.
- Oakland trailed by as many as eight points late in the first half before going on a 12-2 run to end the period up 38-36 and used that momentum to outscore Youngstown State 44-29 in the final 20 minutes.
Cleveland State 66, Wright State 64
- For the second-straight week, the #FRIDAYisHLMBB matchup came down to the final seconds as Cleveland State’s Deante Johnson finished an alley-oop dunk with 0.7 seconds remaining in regulation to extend CSU’s perfect record to start League play to 9-0.
- Torrey Patton scored a game-high 17 points for the Vikings and Johnson was just shy of a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds as nine Cleveland State players scored in the game.
- All five Wright State starters nearly scored in double figures led by Grant Basile recording 15 points, Loudon Love registering 14 and Tanner Holden adding 11 with all three grabbing eight rebounds each.
- CSU forced 17 WSU turnovers including 13 steals and converted them into 13 points, while the Vikings bench outscored their counterparts 23-5.
UIC 67, RMU 53
- UIC snapped a two-game losing skid and are now 5-1 inside Credit Union 1 Arena to improve to 3-2 in HL play.
- Michael Diggins posted a team-high 16 points, while Teyvion Kirk collected his third double-double during #HLMBB play with 12 points and 10 rebounds and Jamie Ahale hit four 3-pointers.
- AJ Bramah continues to lead the charge for the Colonials with a game-best 19 points while also tying a season-best with 14 rebounds.
- The Flames turned up the defensive effort as the 53 points are the second-fewest they have allowed this season and they held the Colonials to 30 percent shooting including 1-for-14 from 3-point range.
