INDIANAPOLIS – Saturday marked the midway point of the #HLMBB season and the end of Week 5 with Detroit Mercy, IUPUI, Oakland, Purdue Fort Wayne and UIC all earning weekend sweeps, while Wright State handed Cleveland State its first loss of the Horizon League season.

Oakland 81, Youngstown State 74
  • The Golden Grizzlies completed its second series sweep of the season, but the first inside the O’rena.
  • For the second game in a row, Oakland’s Jalen Moore tallied a double-double with 31 points and 12 assists, marking his second 30-point effort this season. Micah Parrish added 13 points by going 5-for-5 from the floor.
  • Hunter Myles led YSU for the second-straight game with 18 points and Shemar Rathan-Mayes recorded 15 points and seven assists.
  • It was a tale of two halves for Oakland as they trailed 41-39 at intermission shooting 36 percent, but turned it around in the second half by shooting 56 percent from the floor and won the second half by nine points.
Detroit Mercy 68, Green Bay 65
  • Detroit Mercy claimed its first weekend series sweep of the season in comeback fashion to remain undefeated in the year 2021.
  • Antoine Davis had another impressive performance for the Titans with 30 points on seven 3-pointers as he posted his 16th 30-point performance of his career. Bul Kuol registered 22 points and Marquell Fraser chipped in 10.
  • Green Bay’s Emmanuel Ansong tallied 16 points off the bench on 8-of-12 shooting and Josh Jefferson recorded 14 points with four triples.
  • The Titans trailed by as many as 14 in the first half, but cut that deficit to just three at halftime and secured the win by scoring 10 of the final 17 points over the final four minutes of the game.
IUPUI 65, Northern Kentucky 63
  • IUPUI completed a road sweep of the Norse on Saturday for its second #HLMBB win of the season.
  • Marcus Burk and Jaylen Minnett led the Jags for the second-straight game as Burk finished with 23 points and Minnett tallied 18 as the duo combined for six triples.
  • NKU’s Trevon Faulkner scored a team-high 16 points and freshman David Böhm added 12 points as the Norse have now dropped their last four contests.
  • The Jags pulled out another close victory as the game was tied at 60-60 with just over four minutes to play and got layups by Burk and Elyjah Goss to seal the series sweep.
UIC 66, RMU 62 (OT)
  • The Flames earned an overtime win over the Colonials to improve to 4-2 in Horizon League play including 4-0 at home.
  • UIC’s Rob Howard scored a team-best 18 points, while Maurice Commander and Teyvion Kirk each tallied 15 points and eight rebounds.
  • AJ Bramah posted his third consecutive double-double for RMU as the HL’s leading scorer finished with 23 points and a season-best 16 boards. Bramah has reached 20 points in four of five #HLMBB games this season.
  •  In overtime, the Flames went 3-for-7 from the floor and 4-of-6 from the free-throw line and they held the Colonials to just 20 percent (1-5) from the field.
Wright State 85, Cleveland State 49
  • For the second-straight week, Wright State salvaged a series split at home with a convincing win in the second game of the weekend as the Raiders claimed a 36-point victory.
  • WSU had four players finish in double figures as Tanner Holden fell just short of a double-double with 23 points and nine rebounds, while Tim Finke also recorded nine rebounds and added 15 points.
  • Cleveland State suffered its first loss of the HL season and are now 9-1. Yahel Hill was the lone CSU player to finish in double figures with 11 points off the bench and Torrey Patton grabbed 12 boards.
  • The Raiders turned up the defensive pressure as they forced 19 turnovers, converting them in 22 points, and held the Vikings to just 28 percent shooting from the floor.
Purdue Fort Wayne 81, Milwaukee 74
  • • The Mastodons are now riding a four-game winning streak with a road series sweep and are now 5-5 in #HLMBB play.
  • Purdue Fort Wayne ended the game with four players in double figures with Jarred Godfrey registering 18 points, seven assists and six rebounds. Jalon Pipkens went 4-for-4 from long range for 16 points and Bobby Planutis added 15.
  • Milwaukee’s Tafari Simms scored a game-high 24 points off the bench on 8-of-12 shooting, including 4-of-5 from 3-point range, while Te’Jon Lucas collected 16 points and seven assists.
  • It was another efficient-shooting night for the Mastodons as they shot 63 percent from the field (27-43) including setting a single-game school record 70.6 percent (12-of-17) from distance.
