INDIANAPOLIS – Week 4 of the #HLMBB season tipped off on Friday in dramatic fashion as Youngstown State was able to earn a road win at the buzzer in front of a national television audience on ESPN2 and two more games went into overtime, while Cleveland State remains unbeaten during HL play with an impressive defensive effort.

Milwaukee 94, IUPUI 70
  • In its first home game of the season, Milwaukee picked up the win and improved to 3-1 in Horizon League play.
  • Tafari Simms scored a career-high 32 points for the Panthers off the bench on 10-of-13 shooting including going 5-for-6 from long range. Te’Jon Lucas added 14 points and eight assists.
  • Bobby Harvey scored a team-best 18 points for IUPUI and Azariah Seay chipped in 12.
  • The 94 points marks the most by the Panthers in regulation since totaling 98 against UIC in the Horizon League Tournament in 2016.
Green Bay 84, Oakland 81 (OT)
  • The Phoenix earned its second-straight victory and claimed its first overtime win since the semifinals of the CIT Tournament on April 2, 2019 vs. Texas Southern.
  • Josh Jefferson set a new career-high for Green Bay with 25 points on 8-of-10 shooting including going 4-for-5 from 3-point range.
  • Oakland’s Jalen Moore finished with a game-high 33 points with four triples and Daniel Oladapo tallied a double-double with 20 points and tied a career-high with 18 rebounds.
  • GB trailed by four points with one minute to play in overtime before ending the game on a 7-0 run thanks to a Jefferson 3-pointer followed by two clutch free throws with less than two seconds on the clock.   
Purdue Fort Wayne 96, UIC 89 (OT)
  • Purdue Fort Wayne snapped a two-game slide with an impressive offensive performance as the Mastodons improved to 2-1 at home in League play.
  • Jared Godfrey led the charge for Purdue Fort Wayne with his first career 40-point performance as he finished with 41 on 13 field goals including four 3-pointers and went 11-for-12 from the free-throw line. The 41 points are the second-most points in a HL game this season.
  • Four UIC players finished in double figures led by Teyvion Kirk with 31 points and six assists, while Michael Diggins earned a double-double with 16 points and 11 boards.
  • The Mastodons held an 81-70 lead heading towards the end of regulation before the Flames went on a 11-0 run thanks to three triples and clutch free throws by Diggins to force the extra period. Purdue Fort Wayne would not be denied however as it shot a perfect 6-for-6 from the floor in overtime to secure the win.
Cleveland State 58, Northern Kentucky 44
  • CSU is now the lone undefeated team in the HL at 7-0 matching its best start in Horizon League play in program history.
  • Torrey Patton scored a team-high 14 points and added eight rebounds for the Vikings, while Jayson Woodrich hit three 3-pointers and Tre Gomillion grabed 10 boards.
  • NKU’s Trevon Faulkner registered a game-high 17 points and Adrian Nelson recorded 11 boards and added seven points.
  • Cleveland State turned up the defensive effort all night as it held the Norse to just 28 percent shooting from the floor, including 4-for-28 from 3-point range. The 44 points are the fewest allowed in a #HLMBB game this season.
Youngstown State 74, Wright State 72
  • In this week’s #FridayisHLMBB matchup on ESPN2, the Penguins earned a thrilling win on the road thanks to a Garrett Covington layup as time expired.
  • YSU’s Naz Bohannon had a terrific game finishing with 28 points, eight rebounds and the game-winning assist. Covington finished with 12 points, none bigger than his final two at the buzzer, and Michael Akuchie fell just shy of a double-double with 12 points and nine boards.
  • Five WSU players finished in double figures as Tanner Holden recorded 17 and Tim Finke registeried a double-double with 16 points, including a game-tying triple with 13.5 seconds left in the game, and 11 rebounds.
  • This matchup featured the two best rebounding teams in the HL with the Penguins winning tonight’s battle of the boards, 38-35, while also outscoring the Raiders, 10-0, in fastbreak points.
