INDIANAPOLIS – The 2021 Horizon League Women’s Soccer regular season title and No. 1 seed for the championship was earned by Milwaukee as the women’s soccer regular season came to a close on Wednesday. The Panthers are set to host the semifinals and championship rounds of the #HLWSOC Championship on Nov. 4 and Nov. 6 at Engelmann Stadium.
For the sixth time in seven years, Milwaukee has clinched the No. 1 seed of the Horizon League Women’s Soccer Championship. The Panthers conclude the 2021 regular season with a perfect conference record of 11-0 and an overall record of 16-1. This will be the 13
th time Milwaukee hosts the women’s soccer championship. MKE will play its semifinal match on Nov. 4 at 2 p.m. ET/1 p.m. CT against the lowest-remaining seed after the quarterfinal matches.
Oakland enters postseason play as the No. 2 seed and will also receive a bye into the semifinal round
. The Golden Grizzlies finish with a League record of 9-1-1 and a 10-8-1 overall record. It marks the best seed for Oakland since 2015 when they won the tournament as the No. 2 seed. Oakland will face the highest-remaining seed after the quarterfinal matches at 5 p.m. ET/4 p.m. CT on Nov. 4 at Engelmann Stadium.
The 2021 #HLWSOC Championship begins Sunday, October 31 with quarterfinals hosted by No. 3 seed Northern Kentucky and No. 4 seed Green Bay. The Norse finished the season with a 7-4 record in League play as well as a 9-7-2 overall and have made the tournament every year since joining the HL in 2015. The Phoenix went 7-2-6 overall and 4-2-5 in Horizon League matches and will makes their first appearance in the championship since 2014.
Northern Kentucky will host No. 6 seed Purdue Fort Wayne, who wrapped the season with a 4-5-2 HL record and will make their first appearance in just their second year in the HL. The Phoenix will host No. 5 seed Cleveland State who return to the championship for the first time since reaching the title game in 2018 after closing League play with a 5-5-1 record and 6-10-2 overall. Both matches are set to begin at 1 p.m. local time.
