Milwaukee and IUPUI Take 2021 #HLXC Championships
Carmel, Ind. - The 2021 Horizon League Cross Country Championships took place at Northview Church in Carmel, Ind. on Saturday. Senior Abigail Halsey was the women’s #HLXC champion for Wright State Raiders. UIC senior Carlos Cabrera was the men's champion. Milwaukee Panthers women’s team repeated as champions, winning with a score of 47 points. IUPUI Jaguars took home the men’s title for the third year in a row, winning with a score of 30 points.
Wright State senior Abigail Halsey was the women’s 6K champion after crossing the line in a time of 22:10.6. Milwaukee’s Mikayla Fox was the runner-up with a finish of 22:22.8. Youngstown State’s Morgan Cole (22:35.4) was third across the line, followed by Maryam Sheena (23:01.2) of Oakland, while Madison King (23:02.6) of Purdue Fort Wayne. Ellie Voetberg of Oakland won Freshman of the Year, finishing in 16
th place with a time of 23:34.6.
The 2021 Women's #HLXC Championship title was earned by Milwaukee (47 points). Following Milwaukee was Oakland with 64 points. Third place was earned by Youngstown State (70 points), followed by UIC (152 points). Detroit Mercy picked up 171 points to round out the top five.
Carlos Cabrera of UIC was the men’s 8K champion after finishing in a time of 25:36.8 while Youngstown State’s Hunter Christopher (25:42.1) was the runner-up. IUPUI’s Nicholas Perkins (25:48), Nate Kaiser (25:51), and Mitchell Gits (25:52.1) rounded out the top five. Grant Moon of IUPUI won Freshman of the Year finishing in 11
th place with a time of 26:19.
IUPUI was the men's #HLXC Champion with a score of 30 points. Following IUPUI was runner-up Youngstown State (59 points). UIC (100 points), Milwaukee (139 points) and Oakland (150 points) rounded out the top five.
