HORIZON LEAGUE ANNOUNCES 2021 #HLXC ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM
INDIANAPOLIS – Recognizing student-athletes for their success both in competition and in the classroom, the Horizon League released its 2021 Cross Country All-Academic Team and honorable mentions on Thursday. A total of 16 student-athletes earned the honor of being named to the All-Academic Team, while eight more were tabbed as honorable mentions. Faculty Athletic Representatives from all 12 member institutions casted their votes for this award.
The All-Academic and Honorable Mention Teams are comprised of student-athletes from nine of the League’s institutions. Milwaukee lead the way with four representatives on the All-Academic Team. Oakland had three All-Academic Team members and two honorable mentions. Youngstown State, IUPUI, and Detroit Mercy each had two representatives on the All-Academic Team, while Youngstown State totaled two honorable mentions and IUPUI recorded one honorable mention. Purdue Fort Wayne and Wright State round out the All-Academic Team with one student-athlete each, with Purdue Fort Wayne also having two honorable mentions. Cleveland State rounds out the honorable mentions with one student-athlete.
The Horizon League recognizes student-athletes with seasonal Academic All-League Teams in each of its 19 championship sports. To be eligible for Horizon League All-Academic consideration, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.20 or higher (based on a 4.00 scale), have completed at least one year at the member institution, having earned 24 semester-hour or 36 quarter-hour credits, and participate in 50 percent of the team’s overall contests.
