Horizon League Announces 2021 #HLMSOC All-Academic Team
INDIANAPOLIS – The Horizon League announced on Tuesday its 2021 Men’s Soccer All-Academic Team. 12 student-athletes earned the honor of being named to the All-Academic Team, while five more were tabbed as honorable mentions. Faculty Athletic Representatives from all 12 member institutions casted their votes for this award.
The All-Academic and Honorable Mention Teams are comprised of student-athletes from nine out of eleven institutions that sponsor the sport of men’s soccer. Cleveland State and Milwaukee lead the way with two representatives on the All-Academic Team and one honorable mention. Oakland had two All-Academic Team members, while Detroit Mercy, Purdue Fort Wayne and RMU all placed one student-athlete on the All-Academic Team and one on the Honorable Mention Team. IUPUI, UIC and Wright State round out the All-Academic Team with one student-athlete each.
The Horizon League recognizes student-athletes with seasonal Academic All-League Teams in each of its 19 championship sports. To be eligible for Horizon League All-Academic consideration, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.20 or higher (based on a 4.00 scale), have completed at least one year at the member institution, having earned 24 semester-hour or 36 quarter-hour credits, and participate in 50 percent of the team’s overall contests. An Honorable Mention team is awarded to student-athletes who received at least 25 percent of votes, but did not make the All-Academic team.
