INDIANAPOLIS – The first weekend of the #HLWBB season concluded on Saturday with Milwaukee, Cleveland State and Youngstown State each improving to 2-0 in League play, while Green Bay and Oakland each picked up their first HL wins of the season at home.

Milwaukee 61, Northern Kentucky 49

  • The Panthers started League play 2-0 for the second-straight season with a 61-49 home victory over Northern Kentucky.
  • MKE finished with four players in doubled figures led by McKaela Schmelzer and Sydney Staver with 15, while Megan Walstad posted her first double-double of the HL season with 13 points and 12 boards.
  • The Norse were led by Lindsey Duvall with 14 points and Emmy Souder with 12 points. Grayson Rose tallied 10 rebounds.
  • Milwaukee trailed by one point going into halftime, but outscored NKU 34-21 in the second half as they shot 57.7 percent from the floor over the final 20 minutes.
Green Bay 78, Wright State 67
  • GB pulled back to .500 in #HLWBB play with an 11-point victory at home.
  • Hailey Oskey posted 21 points on 6-of-8 shooting to lead the Phoenix, while Brooklyn Blackburn added 15.
  • Four WSU players totaled double-digit points as Destyne Jackson registered a team-best 17 points followed by Channing Chappell with 13.
  • Green Bay’s free-throw shooting proved to be the difference as the team combined to shoot 16-for-17 from the charity stripe.
Youngstown State 64, Detroit Mercy 56
  • The Penguins improved to 2-0 during HL play for the first time since the 2019-20 season after defeating Detroit Mercy on the road.
  • Lilly Ritz recorded a game-high 25 points for YSU and Chelsea Olson filled up the stat sheet with 14 points, eight rebounds and seven assists.
  • A total of three Detroit Mercy players ended the game in double figures with Irene Murua and Daija Moses pacing the Titans with 12 points each.
  • Youngstown State held the advantage in the post as it outscored Detroit Mercy 42-28 in the paint.
Oakland 65, RMU 60
  • Oakland ends the opening weekend of League play 1-1 after claiming a five-point win over RMU at home.
  • Kahlaijah Dean led the way for the Golden Grizzlies with 22 points on four triples, while Brianna Breedy tallied 13 points after making all six of her free throw attempts.
  • Ashya Klopfenstein scored a team-high 15 for the Colonials and added eight rebounds. Nina Augustin and Sol Castro also scored in double figures.
  • Oakland was able to pull ahead in the fourth quarter thanks to quality shooting from the free-throw line as the Golden Grizzlies shot 10-for-12 in the final period.
Cleveland State 74, UIC 64
  • The Vikings start the League season 2-0 for the first time since the 2018-19 season.
  • Destiny Leo recorded 22 points for CSU with three 3-pointers and Isabella Geraci added 16 points including shooting a perfect 7-for-7 from the charity stripe.
  • UIC’s Jaida McCloud scored a game-high 24 points and Kristian Young chipped in 15 points, seven rebounds and five assists.
  • CSU held a 23-13 advantage in fast break points and also took a total of 43 shots from the free-throw line.
