INDIANAPOLIS – Following the first week of League play, Cleveland State, Purdue Fort Wayne, Youngstown State and Milwaukee top the standings with 2-0 records.
#HLWBB NEWS & NOTES
- In this week’s College Insider Women’s Mid-Major Top 25 poll, IUPUI ranked No. 21 while Milwaukee and Cleveland State received votes.
- Lilly Ritz led Youngstown State to a pair of road wins in week one of League play as she averaged 24.5 points and 7.0 rebounds while shooting 77.8 percent from the field in the first #HLWBB games of her career.
- Milwaukee’s Megan Walstad averaged 16 points, 10 rebounds, and two blocks in a pair of Horizon League wins over Wright State and Northern Kentucky. The redshirt sophomore shot 52 percent from the floor in the wins.
- Purdue Fort Wayne junior Shayla Sellers registered career-highs in both points and rebounds against UIC, with 23 and 11, respectively, for her first-career double-double. Sellers went 7-of-11 from the floor (63.6 percent), 5-of-6 from 3-point range (83.3 percent) and 4-for-4 from the free throw line.
- Cleveland State’s Destiny Leo posted a team-high 22 points in a 74-64 victory over UIC. The 22 points marked her fourth straight 20-point effort to begin the 2021-22 campaign as the sophomore leads all #HLWBB players with 24.0 points per game this season.
- Northern Kentucky’s Grayson Rose leads the League with 10.3 rebounds per game this season as the graduate student hauled in a career-high 18 rebounds in the win over Green Bay.
- Hailey Oskey led Green Bay with 20.0 points per game in the opening week of League play.
- Kahlaijah Dean paced Oakland with 20.0 points per game in the first two League contest and also added 15 points against Michigan on Monday.
- Esther Castedo scored 23 points to lead RMU to a victory over Detroit Mercy on Thursday.
- IUPUI’s Destiny Perkins leads the League with 6.0 assists per game this season.
- UIC’s Jaida McCloud averaged 19.5 points in UIC’s first two Horizon League games, including a 24-point outburst against Cleveland State. McCloud also had 5.0 rebounds, 3.0 steals, and 1.5 blocks per game on the week.
- Irene Murua (13.0 points) and Daija Moses (10.0 points) led Detroit Mercy in scoring during week one of #HLWBB play.
- Destyne Jackson leads Wright State with 14.0 points per game this season.
