MILWAUKEE, Wisc.  – The 2021 Horizon League Women’s Soccer Championship was won by No. 1 seed Milwaukee after defeating No. 2 seed Oakland, 2-0, in Engelmann Stadium on Saturday. This marks the fourth consecutive #HLWSOC championship title for the Panthers, earning a berth to the NCAA women’s soccer tournament.

It was a clash between the top seeds for the 2021 #HLWSOC championship with Milwaukee and Oakland facing each other in the title match for the first time since 2013. In the 23rd minute, All-Tournament Team member Maggy Henschler fielded a loose ball off a corner kick with her right foot and found the far left post to net the first goal of the match for the Panthers. Between the posts, All-Tournament Team selection Elaina LaMacchia had two saves in the first 45 minutes to keep the match 1-0.

It wasn’t until late into the second period, just after the 75th minute, that All-Tournament MVP Lesley Kiesling was able send the ball to the top shelf to make it a 2-0 advantage, ultimately sealing the match for the Panthers. This marks the second goal for Kiesling in the 2021 #HLWSOC tournament. The second period was a hard fought as Oakland’s Macy Wierenga looked to make it a one goal match in the 86th minute, but her shot was just wide of the net. The teams combined for nine shots on goal with LaMacchia finishing with five saves for the Panthers and Noemi Stadelmann with two saves for the Golden Grizzlies.

Milwaukee takes home their 14th overall Horizon League Women’s Soccer Championship title and advances to the NCAA Tournament. The Division I NCAA women's soccer selection show will take place on Monday, Nov. 8 at 4:30 p.m. ET/3:30 p.m. CT. The selection show can be streamed live on NCAA.com.
