INDIANAPOLIS – Saturday marked day two of Horizon League play highlighted by Milwaukee’s Patrick Baldwin Jr. putting on a show on ESPNU to give the Panthers its first HL win. Cleveland State, Oakland and Youngstown State each improved to 2-0 in HL play, while Purdue Fort Wayne also picked up its first League win with a victory at home.

Milwaukee 77, RMU 69

  • Milwaukee ended the first #HLMBB weekend with a 1-1 record after earning an eight-point victory at home in front of a national television audience on ESPNU.
  • Patrick Baldwin Jr. put on a show for the Panthers scoring a game-high 26 points with six 3-pointers, including 19 points in the first half on 7-of-8 shooting after making all five of his 3-point attempts. Josh Thomas added 19 points and Donovan Newby chipped in 16.
  • Rasheem Dunn led the way for the Colonials with 21 points and Kam Farris finished the game with 14 points with four triples.
  • The game was tied 61-61 with six minutes to play until MKE went on a 12-2 run over the next three minutes to take a 10-point lead.
Oakland 78, IUPUI 45
  • The Golden Grizzlies finish the opening weekend of HL play 2-0 for the first time since the 2018-19 season.
  • Oakland finished the game with a balanced offensive attack as Jalen Moore scored a team-best 15 points on 10-of-10 shooting from the foul line, while Jamal Cain, Micah Parrish and Trey Townsend each finished with 14.
  • IUPUI’s B.J. Maxwell fell just one rebounds short of a double-double as he scored a game-best 19 points and grabbed nine boards.
  • Oakland forced 23 IUPUI turnovers and converted them into 32 points.
Purdue Fort Wayne 71, Northern Kentucky 57
  • Purdue Fort Wayne picked up its first win of Horizon League play with its third home win of the season.
  • Jalon Pipkins led all scorers with 21 points for the ‘Dons, while Jarred Godfrey scored 14 points and Bobby Planutis added 11.
  • Trey Robinson registered a team-high 16 points for the Norse with four 3-pointers and Sam Vinson chipped in 10 points.
  • The Mastodons held NKU to just 36.2 percent shooting from the floor including just 33.3 percent from long range.
Cleveland State 85, Wright State 75
  • For the second-straight season, Cleveland State starts Horizon League play 2-0 and extends its winning streak to six games.
  • Five Vikings finished in double figures led by Jayson Woodrich with 17 points off the bench with five 3-pointers, while D’Moi Hodge recorded 14 points and Tre Gomillion tallied 13.
  • Wright State ended the game with a pair of 20-point performances as Trey Calvin finished with 28 and Grant Basile recorded a double-double with 23 points and 15 rebounds.
  • The Vikings shot 55.2 percent from the floor including 50 percent from long range and held a 37-6 advantage in bench points and a 42-32 advantage in points in the paint.
Youngstown State 82, Green Bay 58
  • The Penguins start the Horizon League season 2-0 for the second time in three seasons after sweeping its road trip through the state of Wisconsin.
  • YSU finished the game with four players with 15 or more points led by Tevin Olison with his second 20-point game this season, followed by Michael Akuchie with 17 and both Shemar Rathan-Mayes and Dwayne Cohill totaling 15 points.
  • Emmanuel Ansong was Green Bay’s leading scorer with 13 points.
  • Youngstown State pulled away from Green Bay with a terrific second half as the team combined to shoot 62.5 percent from the floor and 57.1 percent from long range in the final 20 minutes.
