Nike #HLWBB Players of the Week (February 1)
INDIANAPOLIS – Northern Kentucky’s Carissa Garcia is the Nike® #HLWBB Player of the Week as the Norse returned to action with a road sweep at previously unbeaten Milwaukee, moving to 6-0 in the standings and the sophomore averaged 21.0 points while shooting 55 percent from the floor. Cleveland State’s Destiny Leo earned Nike® #HLWBB Freshman of the Week honors for the first time as she averaged 19.5 points in two victories over Oakland.

Carissa Garcia had a career weekend as the Norse improved to 6-0 in League play, sweeping a Milwaukee team that entered the week 12-0 in #HLWBB play. After playing just one game in the previous 40 days, Garcia matched her career-high with 20 points in Friday night’s 67-50 win that snapped the Panthers’ 12-game winning streak. For an encore, Garcia established a new career high-water mark with 22 points as the Norse picked up their sixth-straight league win. For the weekend, the sophomore guard averaged 21 points on the strength of 55 percent (16-of-29) shooting from the floor and 53 percent (9-of-17) for 3-point range.

Destiny Leo averaged 19.5 points in a pair of CSU wins over Oakland this week. She finished with 23 points (the first 20-point game of her collegiate career) on a 7-for-10 performance from the floor in game one, and followed that up with a 16-point effort in game two. The Ohio native combined for seven three-pointers on the weekend on a .583 clip from behind-the-arc (7-for-12). Leo also grabbed six rebounds and dished out four assists on the weekend to help lead the Vikings to their second series sweep of the season.
