Sean Peterson, Michael Gorman and Meg Swietlik named 2021 Alfreeda Goff Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Year

INDIANAPOLIS – Youngstown State’s Sean Peterson and Milwaukee’s Michael Gorman and Meg Swietlik each earned 2021 Alfreeda Goff Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Year honors as voted by the League’s head track and field coaches. The 2021 Horizon League Indoor Track & Field Championships begin on Friday, February 26 at Lutheran Health Fieldhouse and are hosted by Purdue Fort Wayne.
 
Milwaukee sophomore Michael Gorman set new school records in both the 55-meter dash and 60-meter dash this season. Both school records broke marks that were set in 1996. He has finished first or second in every single race competed in this season (three 60-meter dashes, two 55-meter dashes, three 200-meter dashes). This has totaled six first place finishes this season. Gorman boasts the fastest times for the Panthers in the 55-meter, 60-meter, and 200-meter dashes. Additionally, he currently holds the fastest 60-meter dash in the Horizon League and the second fastest 200-meter dash in the Horizon League
 
Senior Sean Peterson took first in the mile after clocking a time of 4:14.72 at the YSU Collegiate Invitational Jan. 15 for the Penguins. He set a new personal-record and YSU Mid-Major Invitational record in the men’s 800m run on Jan. 30, posting a time of 1:50.95 and winning the race. His performance ranked as the second-fastest 800m time in YSU program history. Peterson was named the Horizon League Men’s Runner of the Week on Feb. 2. He posted a top-six finish in the Camel City Elite 800m section of the Camel City Invitational Feb. 20, finishing with a 1:51.00 mark.

 
This season, Milwaukee senior Meg Swietlik set a new school record in the 5,000-meter race (16:41.28), topping the previous mark from 1982 by nearly three seconds. She ran two races this season, finishing first in both (3,000-meter and 5,000-meter). She finished her 3,000-meter race in 9:53.89 which ranks sixth all-time in Panthers history and currently owns the fastest 3,000-meter time in the Horizon League by over eight seconds. Swietlik currently holds the fastest 5,000-meter time in the Horizon League by nearly 48 seconds, with her 5,000-meter time ranking 44th in NCAA Division I.
