Nike #HLMSOC Players of the Week (February 5)
INDIANAPOLIS – Oakland senior midfielder Dylan Borczak registered a first-half hat trick and added an assist in the season opener to be named Nike® #HLMSOC Offensive Player of the Week, while UIC senior goalkeeper recorded four saves and posted a shutout to earn Nike® #HLMSOC Defensive Player of the Week as the Horizon League announced its first men’s soccer weekly honors of the spring 2021 season on Friday.
Offensive Player of the Week
Dylan Borczak | Oakland | Senior | Midfielder | Detroit, Mich.
Borczak scored three first-half goals to complete the hat trick while adding an assist for a total of seven points to lead Oakland to a dominating 5-0 win over Robert Morris to open #HLMSOC play. In the second half, Borczak recorded the first assist on a goal by Owen Smith to account for seven of the Golden Grizzlies’ 17 total points against the Colonials.
Defensive Player of the Week
Sokratis Vasilas | UIC | Senior | Goalkeeper | Athens, Greece
Vasilas stopped all four Wright State shots that reached his net in UIC’s opening shutout of the Raiders. It was the fourth clean sheet of his career, and second straight dating to last season. Vasilas was sure-handed in stopping a free kick that went on goal, as well as turning away a close-range shot early in the second half, when Wright State attacked with a barrage of shots in quick succession. Each play he made loomed large in the 1-0 match.
