INDIANAPOLIS – Week 8 of the #HLMBB season ended on Saturday with five teams completing weekend sweeps as Green Bay was the only team to salvage a weekend split. In addition, YSU’s Michael Akuchie set a Horizon League record with 24 rebounds, the most-ever by an HL player in a single League game.

GAME RECAPS
Northern Kentucky 79, Milwaukee 65
- Northern Kentucky posted its sixth consecutive victory and third-straight series sweep to improve to 9-5 in Horizon League play.
- NKU’s Trevon Faulkner tallied a game-high 21 points and Adrian Nelson posted a double-double with 17 points on 7-of-8 shooting and 14 rebounds.
- Josh Thomas led Milwaukee with 19 points off the bench on 8-of-10 shooting, while DeAndre Gholston added 10.
- Both teams shot 48 percent from the floor, but the Norse went 19-of-24 from the free-throw line compared to the Panthers who only shot 9-of-14 from the line.
Detroit Mercy 83, Purdue Fort Wayne 56
- The Titans won their fifth game in a row and are now 8-8 overall and 7-5 during the HL season.
- Four Detroit Mercy players finished in double figures led by Antoine Davis with 26 points and Matt Johnson with 24 points on six 3-pointers.
- Jarred Godfrey and Deonte Billups each scored a team-high 13 points for Purdue Fort Wayne as both made three triples.
- Detroit Mercy outscored the Mastodons 48-27 in the second half and also ended the game shooting 91.3 percent (21-23) from the free-throw line.
Green Bay 79, IUPUI 72
- Green Bay snapped a three-game losing skid and salvaged a weekend split with the win on Saturday.
- PJ Pipes finished with a team-high 20 points, 15 from the charity stripe, and Emmanuel Ansong nearly recorded a double-double with 18 points and nine rebounds.
- Jaylen Minnett and Marcus Burk led the charge for the Jags once again with 21 and 19, respectively, while Elyjah Goss registered his second double-double of the weekend with 13 points and 12 boards.
- It was a tale of two halves as the Phoenix led 41-18 at halftime, but IUPUI responded with 54 points the second period but Green Bay held off the surge as the Jags could only cut the lead to as few as five points in the second half.
Cleveland State 80, Oakland 78
- Cleveland State improved to 14-2 in Horizon League play as it picked up its fourth consecutive win and its third weekend sweep on the road.
- D’Moi Hodge tallied 20 points for Cleveland State, his second 20-point performance during HL play, and Torrey Patton fell just shy of a double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds.
- Five Oakland players finished in double figures with Daniel Oladapo and Zion Young both totaling a team-best 18 points.
- With the victory, the Vikings clinched their first-ever 14-win Horizon League campaign and notched their most wins in conference play since the 1992-93 squad.
Youngstown State 70, RMU 66 (OT)
- Youngstown State notched back-to-back League wins for the first time this season with both victories this weekend coming in overtime.
- YSU’s Michael Akuchie set a Horizon League record with 24 rebounds, the most boards in a League game, eclipsing the previous record of 23. It is tied for the most by a Horizon League player matching Xavier’s Derek Strong who also grabbed 24 boards vs. Loyola Marymount on Jan. 2, 1990.
- Akuchie added 11 points for his fourth double-double, while Darius Quisenberry led the Penguins with 21 points.
- AJ Bramah recorded 17 points and 16 rebounds for RMU for his second double-double of the weekend and sixth of the #HLMBB season. Trayden Williams notched 16 points off the bench.
- For the second-straight night, RMU sent the game to overtime with a last second shot as Cameron Wilbon hit a floater in the lane with 1.1 seconds left in regulation. However, YSU was once again able to secure the victory with clutch free-throw shooting in OT going 8-for-10 from the line in the extra period.
Wright State 77, UIC 57
- The Raiders won its seventh HL game in a row, the second-longest win streak this season, and improved to 13-3 in #HLMBB play.
- Loudon Love posted double-double No. 7 on the HL season for WSU with 18 points and 10 rebounds, while Grant Basile finished with 17 points and Tanner Holden added 16.
- UIC’s Michael Diggins scored a team-high 16 points and Teyvion Kirk finished with 13 points and 10 boards for his fifth double-double of the HL season.
- Wright State used a second-half surge as it outscored UIC 41-28 in the final 20 minutes thanks to holding a 12-4 advantage in second-chance points, while holding the Flames to 3-of-11 shooting from deep.
