INDIANAPOLIS – In what can only be described as one of the most exciting days ever in the Horizon League Men’s Basketball Championship, Tuesday’s quarterfinals saw three games go to overtime, including one triple OT affair, and the final game be decided at the buzzer as Cleveland State, Oakland, Northern Kentucky and Milwaukee each claimed victories and advanced to Monday’s semifinal games in Indianapolis at the Indiana Farmers Coliseum.

The first semifinal will feature top-seeded Cleveland State against No. 8 seed Milwaukee at 6:30 p.m. ET on ESPNU, followed by No. 3 seed Oakland facing off against No. 4 seed Northern Kentucky at 9:30 p.m. ET on ESPN2.

Northern Kentucky 70, Detroit Mercy 69
  • In the lone quarterfinal game to be decided in regulation, No. 4 seed Northern Kentucky defeated No. 5 seed Detroit Mercy at the buzzer as freshman David Böhm put in a layup off an offensive rebound as time expired.
  • With the win, the Norse advance to the semifinals of the Horizon League Men’s Basketball Championship for the third-straight season.
  • Freshman of the Year Marques Warrick totaled 20 points for the Norse with four triples to lead four NKU players in doubles figures, while Bryson Langdon finished with 17.
  • Böhm closed with 11 after his last-second basket and All-Horizon League Second Team selection Trevon Faulkner fell a rebound shy of a double-double with 10 points and nine boards.
  • Detroit Mercy ends the year with a 12-10 record, their first winning season since 2015-16, while the 10 conference wins were the most since the 2012-13 campaign.
  • All-HL Third Team honoree Bul Kuol scored a team-best 20 points for the Titans and Noah Waterman hit five triples and ended the game with 19 points on 7-of-9 shooting.
  • Antoine Davis, a three-time All-Horizon League First Team selection, came off his record setting performance in the first round with 16 points and four 3-pointers for Detroit Mercy.
  • Neither team led by more than five points in the contest, but down the stretch NKU was able to hold the Titans scoreless for the final 3:45 to score the game’s final six points including Böhm’s layup as time expired.
Milwaukee 94, Wright State 92 (OT)
  • Milwaukee trailed by as many as 24 points in the second half before closing regulation on a 33-9 run to force overtime and eventually upset No. 2 seed Wright State at the Nutter Center.
  • The Panthers advance to the semifinals for the first time since 2018 and will be the lowest-seeded team to reach the semis since 2017.
  • DeAndre Gholston scored a team-high 31 points for Milwaukee, 26 in the second half and overtime periods, including hitting a 3-pointer with one second to play in regulation to tie the score and send the game to overtime.
  • Milwaukee’s All-League Third Team selection Te’Jon Lucas closed with 25 points, 23 in the second half alone to spark the comeback.
  • With the loss Wright State is 18-6 on the season, including 16-4 during HL play to share the regular season title.
  • Wright State finished with five players in double figures as All-HL Second Teamer Grant Basile led all scorers with 35 points and First Team selection Tanner Holden added 17 points.
  • Player of the Year Loudon Love ended the game with 14 points but fouled out with 2:12 left in regulation.
  • The Panthers trailed 44-26 at halftime before scoring 55 points in the second half. In overtime, Gholston tallied 11 of MKE’s 13 points including going 6-for-6 from the free-throw line.
Oakland 87, Youngstown State 83 (OT)
  • Oakland picked up just its second overtime victory of the season in six chances to advance to Indianapolis over sixth-seeded Youngstown State.
  • The Golden Grizzlies make it to the semifinals for the third time in four seasons and its fourth time overall since joining the HL during the 2013-14 season.
  • All-Horizon League First Team honoree Jalen Moore recorded his 10th double-double of the season for Oakland with 20 points and 11 assists, while Third Team selection Daniel Oladapo collected double-double No. 9 with 17 points and 10 rebounds.
  • Oakland’s Rashad Williams finished with a team-high 22 points with five 3-pointers and All-Freshman Team selection Micah Parrish registered 12 points.
  • The Penguins close the season 15-12 and 9-11 in HL play.
  • Youngstown State’s Garrett Covington led all scorers with 30 points, marking his career-high, and All-League Second Team selection Naz Bohannon posted the first triple-double in program history with 14 points, 13 rebounds and 11 assists.
  • Darius Quisenberry chipped in 18 points for the Penguins and All-Freshman Team honoree Shemar Rathan-Mayes added 10.
  • The Golden Grizzlies outscored the Penguins 46-30 in the paint and in overtime went 5-for-7 from the field and 3-for-4 from the charity stripe to secure the win.  
Cleveland State 108, Purdue Fort Wayne 104 (3OT)
  • In the longest game in Horizon League Tournament history, top-seeded Cleveland State needed triple overtime to defeat Purdue Fort Wayne and punch its ticket to Indy.
  • The Vikings will be making their first appearance in the semifinals of the Horizon League Men’s Basketball Championship since 2018.
  • Torrey Patton, an All-HL First Team selection, led all scorers with 30 points for Cleveland State, while Tre Gomillion added 22 as both collected 13 rebounds.
  • Algevon Eichelberger tallied 20 points off the bench for CSU including banking in a 3-pointer with only seconds remaining on the clock to send the game to its third overtime period.
  • Purdue Fort Wayne concludes its first season in the Horizon League with an 8-15 record.
  • All-Horizon League Third Team selection Jarred Godfrey led five Purdue Fort Wayne players in double figures with 23 including a layup with six seconds left in regulation to force the first OT tied at 67.
  • Jalon Pipkins scored 19 points for the Mastodon and Bobby Planutis scored 17 points as both hit three triples.
  • CSU held a 50-36 advantage in rebounds and outscored the Dons 66-42 in the paint after 55 minutes of basketball.
