Horizon League Announces #HLTF Indoor Specialty Awards

INDIANAPOLIS – The Horizon League Indoor Track and Field Championship specialty awards were announced on Thursday. The 10 awards were voted on by the League’s 11 head coaches.
 
Women’s Championship Outstanding Performer, Running: Shelby Nolan, WSU
The first night of the #HLTF Indoor Championship competition on the track was the Distance Medley Relay. Wright State was the women’s event champion, with Shelby Nolan climbing from sixth to crossing the line first, in a time of 12:18.04. Nolan went on to win the women’s mile, finishing the race in 4:58.49. The women’s 3,000-meter also went to the Wright State senior, who won the event in a time of 9:39.45. 
 
Men’s Championship Outstanding Performer, Running: Jimmie Williams, OAK
Oakland swept the men’s 400-meter with Jimmie Williams (48.05) earning his third consecutive #HLTF title in the event. Williams picked up two more #HLTF indoor titles on the final day of the championship as the winner of the men’s 200-meter (21.85) and as a member of Oakland’s winning men’s 4x400-meter relay (3:20.05).
 
Women’s Championship Outstanding Performer, Fielding: Erin Bogard, YSU
Erin Bogard won the women’s pole vault and was the only athlete to break a conference record at the 2021 #HLTF Indoor Championships, launching past the previous 3.81m mark and clearing 4.00m for Youngstown State.
 
Men’s Championship Outstanding Performer, Fielding: Jakari Lomax, YSU
The men’s long jump event was won by sophomore Jakari Lomax (7.24m) for Youngstown State. Lomax went on to win the men’s triple jump with a 15.37m mark.
 
Women’s Freshman of the Year, Running: Madison Murry, YSU
Freshman Madison Murry was the women’s 60-meter hurdle champion, finishing the event in 8.72 for Youngstown State. She went on to place sixth in the women’s 200m (25.94).
 
Men’s Freshman of the Year, Running: Ryan Meadows, YSU
Ryan Meadows (14:51.00) led the Penguins to an event win in the men’s 5,000 meter after narrowly edging out IUPUI’s Eric Hoffman (14:52.66) coming down the straight.

Women’s Freshman of the Year, Fielding: Nadia Vo, MKE
Freshman Nadia Vo was the #HLTF women’s long jump champion and earned her second podium finish of the championship for Milwaukee, reaching a mark of 5.61 meters. Vo took the split third in the women’s high jump with Hannah Hall from Oakland at a mark of 1.60m. 
 
Men’s Freshman of the Year, Fielding: Isaiah Tyler, UIC
UIC’s Isaiah Tyler third in the men’s long jump with a 7.02m, took sixth in the men’s high jump (1.96), eighth in the men’s 60 meter with a mark of 7.05.

Men’s and Women’s Coach of the Year: Brian Gorby, YSU
Brian Gorby earned his fifth consecutive men’s coach of the year award and his fourth consecutive women’s award. Before the 2021 Indoor Championship, Gorby had collected 15 coach of the year awards between the men’s and women’s competition.
