Nike #HLBASE Players of the Week (May 11)
INDIANAPOLIS – Youngstown State’s Blaze Glenn hit .786 with 11 hits, including two doubles, and Oakland’s Michael Stygles batted .692 with a home run and drove in nine runs to be named Nike #HLBASE Co-Batters of the Week, while Wright State’s Jake Schrand tossed a complete game shutout and struck out nine batters over seven innings to earn Nike #HLBASE Pitcher of the Week as the Horizon League announced its baseball weekly honors on Tuesday.
#HLBASE Co-Batter of the Week
Blaze Glenn | Youngstown State | Senior | Infielder | Toronto, Ohio
Glenn batted .786 and slugged .929 with 11 hits including two doubles in 14 at-bats over four games against Purdue Fort Wayne this past weekend. He also recorded seven runs scored, four RBIs, 13 total bases, two walks and three stolen bases in three attempts. The Toronto, Ohio, native went 2-for-4 with a run scored in YSU’s 6-2 win in game one of a doubleheader on Friday. Glenn went 4-for-4 with a double, two RBIs, four runs scored, a walk and two stolen bases in YSU’s 15-4 win in game two of Friday’s doubleheader. He then went 2-for-3 with a walk in game one of a doubleheader on Saturday. He followed that by going 3-for-3 with a double, two RBIs, two runs scored and a stolen base in YSU’s 7-5 win in game two of Saturday’s doubleheader. Glenn delivered the game-tying two-run single in the bottom of the sixth inning.
#HLBASE Co-Batter of the Week
Michael Stygles | Oakland | Senior | Infielder | DeWitt, Mich.
For the second consecutive Horizon League series, Stygles hit a blistering .692, finishing the weekend 9-for-13. He added nine RBIs with a home run and one double for 13 total bases, a 1.000 slugging percentage and a .688 on-base percentage to lead Oakland to the team's second consecutive Horizon League series win of the season. In Oakland’s 9-6 series-opening win, Stygles belted a three-run home run while going 3-for-4 with a double and four RBIs. He then hit 4-for-6 with a double, two RBIs and a run in the doubleheader split. In the series-clinching win, Stygles went 2-for-4 delivering a clutch two-run single breaking a 3-3 tie with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning to lead Oakland to a 5-3 win.
#HLBASE Pitcher of the Week
Jake Schrand | Wright State | Junior | RHP | Cincinnati, Ohio
Schrand struck out nine Milwaukee batters in a seven-inning complete game win on Friday afternoon to pick up his fifth win of the season. He scattered six hits and did not walk a batter while not allowing a run. His most impressive inning came early on in the second frame as Milwaukee put runners on second and third with no outs. Schrand was able to get out of the jam by striking out the side, including a pair looking to leave the game scoreless heading into the bottom of the second, when the Raiders would find the scoreboard.
