INDIANAPOLIS – Week 4 of the #HLMBB season came to end on Saturday with Oakland remaining unbeaten in League play at 7-0. In addition, Cleveland State and Youngstown State won at home in dramatic fashion, while UIC pushed its winning streak to three, Milwaukee snapped a three-game losing streak and RMU picked up its first HL win of the season.

Oakland 76, Purdue Fort Wayne 68

  • The Golden Grizzles remain unbeaten in League play with their fourth road win and have started 7-0 in League play for the first time since joining the HL.
  • Jalen Moore led Oakland with 24 points after hitting all eight free-throw attempts and added six boards and five assists. Jamal Cain finished with 18 points in just 18 minutes of action after picking up four first half fouls and fouling out with 11:52 left in the second half, while Trey Townsend added 15.
  • Purdue Fort Wayne’s Jarred Godfrey finished with a game-high 25 points as he set a career-high with seven 3-pointers, the second most in a Horizon League game this season. Damian Chong Qui and Bobby Planutis each tallied nine points.
  • Oakland trailed by six at the half before winning the second period 46-32 as the Golden Grizzlies were held to 33 percent shooting in the first period but responded by shooting 59 percent from the floor over the final 20 minutes.
Milwaukee 89, IUPUI 54
  • Milwaukee snapped a three-game losing skid on Saturday to improve to 4-5 in Horizon League play.
  • DeAndre Gholston paced the Panthers with 21 points with five 3-pointers and Tafari Simms chipped in a season-best 19 points on 7-of-9 shooting.
  • IUPUI’s Azariah Seay and Bakari LaStrap each totaled a team-best nine points.
  • The 89 points marked a season high for the Panthers as they shot 62.3 percent from the floor and 52.0 percent from behind the arc.
Cleveland State 72, Detroit Mercy 70
  • Cleveland State bounced back from its first loss in Horizon League play on Thursday with a two-point victory at home to move up to 7-1 in HL play.
  • Four Vikings finished the game in double figures led by D’Moi Hodge with 16 points and Torrey Patton who finished with his fifth double-double of the season with 13 points and 11 boards. Tre Gomillion also added 13 points, while Nathanael scored 12 points on four triples off the bench.
  • Detroit Mercy’s Antoine Davis recorded a game-best 35 points on 12-of-19 shooting, his second 30-point performance against HL opponents this season and just the third 30-point game this season during League play. D.J. Harvey chipped in 14 points off the bench by going a perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line.
  • It was a back-and-forth affair at the end of the game as the teams combined for five lead changes over the final five minutes. Hodge would hit a layup with six seconds remaining to take a one-point lead then force a turnover and hit a free throw to seal the win.
UIC 80, Green Bay 63
  • The Flames won their third-straight League road game and have now pulled to .500 in League play at 3-3.
  • Damaria Franklin scored 19 points for UIC, followed by Kevin Johnson with 16 points and Jace Carter with 15 to go with nine rebounds.
  • Kamari McGee recorded a game-high 23 points for Green Bay and Cade Meyer fell one rebound shy of a double-double with 15 points and nine boards. The Phoenix played with just seven players for the second-straight game.
  • UIC led by 11 at the half, but really took control of the game in the middle of the second half when it went on a 12-2 run over a three-and-a-half-minute stretch to take a 22-point advantage.
Youngstown State 90, Wright State 87
  • Youngstown State ended a three-game home losing streak to improve to 4-4 in League play and also snapped Wright State’s eight-game winning streak.
  • Three YSU players registered double-digit points with Dwayne Cohill scoring a career-high 25 points with nine field goals, while Michael Akuchie finished with 19 points and Shemar Rathan-Mayes added 15.
  • Tanner Holden posted his second double-double of the season for Wright State with 27 points and 11 rebounds, while Grant Basile tallied double-double No. 6 on the season with 26 points and 10 boards. Wright State played short-handed for the second game in a row as all five starters played at least 30 minutes.
  • With the game tied 86-86, Daniel Ogoro would hit the go-ahead 3-pointer with five seconds remaining in regulation to lift the Penguins to the victory.
RMU 74, Northern Kentucky 64
  • RMU picked up its first Horizon League win of the season with a 10-point home victory.
  • Kahliel Spear tallied 21 points and 11 boards for his fourth double-double of the season for the Colonials, while Michael Green III scored 14 points and Kam Farris added 13.
  • NKU’s Marques Warrick tied a game-high with 21 points on 10-of-12 shooting from the free throw line and Adrian Nelson fell just one rebound shy of a double-double with 11 points and nine boards.
  • The Colonials held the Norse to 36.2 percent shooting from the floor including just 17.4 percent from distance. RMU shot almost 52 percent from the field and hit 17-of-18 attempts from the free-throw line.
