Cleveland State Completes Redemption Season with #HLMSOC Title

INDIANAPOLIS (November 12, 2022) – No. 1 seed Cleveland State defeated No. 3 seed IUPUI 3-0, on Saturday to earn its second #HLMSOC title after falling just short last season.

As freezing rain hit the turf of Krenzler Field, the Cleveland State Vikings, led by Tournament MVP Jannis Schmidt, claimed their spot in the 2022 NCAA Men’s Soccer Tournament.
Joining Schmidt on the All-Tournament Team was Albert Portas who kicked things off for the Vikings as he scored his seventh goal of the season in the 28
th minute. Schmidt would later score a goal of his own in the second half.
Finishing out the scoring for the Vikings was Pablo Kawecki in the 73
rd minute assisted by the Horizon League Offensive and Player of the Year, Bojan Kolevski. Both Kawecki and Kolevki earned All-Tournament Team honors.
Goalkeeper Omeed Naeemy totaled two saves for CSU in the shutout win. The Vikings totaled 21 shots, with six on goal, offensively, compared to IUPUI’s six total and two on goal.
Lucas Morefield managed three saves for the Jaguars in the contest, totaling nine in two games. His efforts earned him All-Tournament Team honors along with his teammates Lukas Hackaa and Logan Finnegan.
Cleveland State will learn its NCAA Tournament draw during the Selection Show at 1 p.m. ET on Monday, Nov. 14 on NCAA.com.
