INDIANAPOLIS – This week marks the final week of non-conference play before the opening week of Horizon League play starts on Thursday, Dec. 1.

#HLMBB NEWS & NOTES
  • Detroit Mercy’s Antoine Davis is on the brink of being one of the most prolific scorers in NCAA history. He currently sits at 2,856 points, putting him just 58 points from the becoming the Horizon League’s all-time leading scorer and is 144 points from becoming the 11th player in NCAA history to score 3,000 points. Wooden Award Preseason Top 50 Watch List, Naismith Award for the Player of the Year and the Bob Cousy Award for the nation’s top point guard.

  • Four #HLMBB Players were named to the Lou Henson National Player of the Year award watch list, presented annually to the top mid-major player in Division I. The four players are Davis, Purdue Fort Wayne’s Jarred Godfrey, Oakland’s Trey Townsend and Northern Kentucky’s Marques Warrick.

The Mastodons are already fourth in the country in 3-pointers made per game (12.0) and first in 3-point field goal attempts (33.8). Purdue Fort Wayne is also defending the 3-point line well as it holds opponents to just a 27.4 shooting percentage from long range.

  • Oakland’s Trey Townsend came up clutch for the Golden Grizzlies over the weekend in an overtime win over Eastern Michigan as he hit the game-tying basket to send the game to OT and then the eventual game-winner during the extra period. The junior is averaging a team-best 18.8 points per game, thanks to a 30-point effort earlier in the week at Toledo, and is shooting 62.5 percent from the floor.
