INDIANAPOLIS – Eight teams opened their 2022-23 #HLWBB campaigns on Friday night with RMU and Youngstown State collecting road victories and Purdue Fort Wayne and Cleveland State earning home wins.

RMU 68, Wright State 47
  • RMU started #HLWBB play with a 68-47 road win at Wright State.
  • The Colonials started and finished strong, outscoring the Raiders 23-12 in the first quarter and 16-6 in the fourth. RMU shot 54.5 percent from behind the arc, making 12 three-pointers and held a 45-27 rebounding advantage.
  • Phoenix Gededon led the Colonials with a game-high 15 points and 19 rebounds. Paris Kirk and Alejandra Mastral scored in double figures as well.
  • Isabelle Bolender scored 13 points to pace the Raiders.
Purdue Fort Wayne 58, Detroit Mercy 49
  • Purdue Fort Wayne picked up a 58-49 home victory over Detroit Mercy to begin League play 1-0.
  • The Mastodons scored 15 points off Titan turnovers and totaled 20 bench points in the win.
  • Destinee Marshall led Purdue Fort Wayne with 21 points and six rebounds.
  • Irene Murua posted a double-double for Detroit Mercy with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Youngstown State 59, Northern Kentucky 55
  • Youngstown State is 1-0 in #HLWBB play following a 59-55 road triumph at Northern Kentucky on Friday night.
  • Lilly Ritz made a layup with ten seconds remaining to give the Penguins a 57-55 advantage and Malia Magestro added a bucket with in the final second to secure the win.
  • Magestro led all scorers with 21 points while Ritz added 12 and Megan Callahan scored 10 points for YSU.
  • Lindsey Duvall scored 16 points and added 10 rebounds to lead the Norse.
Cleveland State 77, Oakland 54
  • Cleveland State extended its winning streak to six games and moved to 1-0 in League play with a 77-54 home victory over Oakland on Friday.
  • The Vikings opened the second half on a 12-0 run, outscoring the Golden Grizzlies 20-9 in the quarter and 44-27 in the final 20 minutes.
  • Four Vikings scored in double figures, highlighted by 19 points from Destiny Leo and a double-double (15 points and 11 rebounds) from Amele Ngwafang.
  • Lamariyee Williams paced Oakland with 11 points.
