INDIANAPOLIS – IUPUI and Youngstown State each earned a share of the regular season title and the Jaguars clinched the No. 1 seed in the #HLWBB Championship as the regular season concluded this weekend. The 2022 Keeps Horizon League Women’s Basketball Championship begins with first-round action on Tuesday, March 1.
#HLWBB NEWS & NOTES
• No. 7 seed Oakland and No. 10 seed Wright State faced off twice this season with the Golden Grizzlies winning both matchups, including a 51-40 victory on Saturday in Dayton to close out the regular season.
• All-League Third Team member Kahlaijah Dean paces Oakland with 15.3 points per game this season while Jada Roberson (13.6 points) and Destyne Jackson (13.4) lead Wright State offensively.
• No. 5 seed Northern Kentucky picked up two wins over No. 12 seed Detroit Mercy during the regular season with the Norse earning a 67-44 victory over the Titans on Saturday in Highland Heights.
• All-League Second Team selections Lindsey Duvall and Ivy Turner lead NKU this season as Duvall averages 16.9 points and 7.4 rebounds while Turner has posted 13.7 points and 3.8 assists per game this season. Brandi Washington totaled 9.23 points to lead Detroit Mercy during the regular season.
• No. 8 seed RMU posted a 2-0 record this season against No. 9 seed Purdue Fort Wayne, most recently a 60-48 win in Fort Wayne on Feb. 11.
• Both the Colonials and the Mastodons placed one student-athlete on the All-League Third Team with Esther Castedo representing RMU and Shayla Sellers representing Purdue Fort Wayne.
• No. 6 seed Milwaukee recorded a 65-58 win at No. 11 seed UIC on Jan. 6 then defeated the Flames by a nearly identical 65-57 score on Feb. 19 in Milwaukee.
• All-League First Team and All-Defensive Team honoree Megan Walstad is averaging 14.7 points and 9.2 rebounds for the Panthers this season while All-League Second Team selection Jaida McCloud paces UIC with 16.7 points and 6.3 rebounds.
• No. 1 seed IUPUI leads the League in team field-goal percentage (45.4 percent) and team three-point field goal percentage (36.9 percent) while Player of the Year Macee Williams tops the individual leaderboard in field-goal percentage (63.2 percent) while All-League Third Team member Rachel Kent paces #HLWBB in three-point field goal percentage (41.4 percent).
• No. 2 seed Youngstown State won its first Horizon League title, and it is a conference regular-season champion for the first time since winning the Mid-Continent Conference in 1998-99. All-League First Team honoree Lilly Ritz leads the Penguins with 16.8 points and 9.6 rebounds this season while All-League Second Team choice Chelsea Olson averages a League-best 4.7 assists this season.
• No. 3 seed Green Bay leads the League in scoring defense (55.1 points), opponent field-goal percentage (34.9 percent) and turnover margin (2.2). All-League First Team honoree Hailey Oskey leads the Phoenix offensively with 13.1 points per game.
• All-League First Team honoree Destiny Leo leads No. 4 seed Cleveland State and the League with 18.6 points per game this season as the Vikings pace #HLWBB with 71.4 points per game. CSU also ranks first in the League in blocked shots (4.3) and steals (9.5).
